Steps: Past time for an upgrade

Steps seem to be a forgotten [step] child.  Scanning the forum there are many, many requests, dating back many years for upgrade to the Step tool.  Sadly, none made it into Snagit 2020 :-(

Distilled, the requests are:
  1. Don't rotate text
  2. Allow other numbering systems
  3. Don't rotate drop shadow
  4. Be able to save a size from session to session
  5. Faster method of editing text (than double click, select, type new text--maybe double click should select the current text?)
  6. Auto increment across multiple images (and bulk increment)
OK enhancement team:  are we wasting our keystrokes typing these messages, or is any of this on the product roadmap?

Hi,

We get a lot of request for enhancements for Snagit and ultimately we don't have time for them all. That said, item #5 is doable on the mac side, simply select a step and start typing. This also works for text/callouts.

Yep, you sure do get a lot of requests for enhancements.  Thanks for picking this up so quickly.  The text on the mac entry is nice.

That written, I would contend that in rotating step shape the text and drop shadows rotate as well is a bug. Making it work correctly is not an enhancement, but rather a bug fix.  eg rotate a "9" step and suddenly it is a "6" step--well that's just wrong.   The other stuff, yeah, I agree are enhancement requests.  I just wanted to have them all in one spot.

Makes sense, i'll pass this along to the team. One thing you can do in the mean time is if you right click a step, you can flip horizontal or vertical and that does keep the text upright.

That flip is nice, hadn't thought of that.  Also, it preserves the shadow in the correct place (at least until it is rotated).
thank you
