Stop putting markers everywhere!

I can't be the only one with this problem with Camtasia 8, can I? I add a marker, play a bit further on the timeline and cut out a spot of unneeded audio and video, and then when I try to select the tracks that need to be moved over to eliminate the gap, left-clicking the tracks to drag them creates a new marker instead. or three.

Can we please turn off this behavior so markers are ONLY created when we press M? There's no good reason for having both M and left-click do the same thing.

what version of CS?

I have seen this behavior before

solution is to immediately save, exit, relaunch, reload; that usually gets rid of the extra [artifact] markers

8.5.2 but it has been an issue with the previous several updates too.

Restarting doesn't solve the problem - it starts adding more unwanted markers all over again as soon as you add the next marker.

are you trying to move the new marker right after you add it?

This is still a problem and still irritating one update later. Are there any plans to work on this? I'd like to be able to left click the timeline after a cut without it making a new marker instead.... surely I'm not the only one having this issue?

Kayakman, I'm not trying to move the marker at all.

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for checking back in on this issue. I think it must be where you are left-clicking that is causing an extra marker. Here's an illustration:

If you're getting markers from left-clicking in an empty area of a track, or on the main area of the media, then you may be experiencing an unknown bug.

Can you let is know if this the issue? A video or even a screenshot will help me understand.

As far as the hotkey goes, pressing M will place a timeline media marker at the playhead, but if you want a marker on the media itself, the way to do that would be to click in that small marker area indicated in the above illustration.
