Hello,
I just purchased Camtasia and whenever I stop recording with the Camtasia Recorder, I get an error message. (Action in Camtasia cannot be completed. An error occurred with an open version of Camtasia. Please close Camtasia and repeat the process)
Can anyone help here?
Thank's a lot.

" . . (Action in Camtasia cannot be completed. An error occurred with an open version of Camtasia. Please close Camtasia and repeat the process) . ."

That's pretty specific. Did you try to open two instances of Camtasia?

No I didn't...
The only way to complete and temporarily save a recording is as follows:
in the options, I switched from auto to save, then the error message no longer appears.
But I would like the recording to open automatically in Camtasia and allow editing.
Using the method described above, I must always open the saved recording separately. This is cumbersome.

You can always open Camtasia by dbl clicking on the project file name (*.tscproj).
Are you try to open a second project while a first project is already loaded?
What version of Camtasia are you using?

Thank you for helping! No, none of the operations listed has been carried out. The Version is 2019 - just bought and downloaded. It all worked for the first clip but with the second I got the error message and can't get rid of it. It's an unpracticable workflow when the automatic funktion does not work.

try this ... configure Recorder [File Options] to just save after capture; does that work?

default configuration is for a 1st new capture to get saved, placed into media bin, and also placed on timeline; Camtasia editor is launched if not already open

you can always manually import captures in to a new project

Thank you for sending me the link with the tutorials. I have already viewed a few of them, but my problem can't be solved by this.

But it all worked when I started Camtasia for the first time and for the first recording. I didn't change any settings and still I always get this error message and the automatic function is not executed. I have already checked all settings and restarted the program and the laptop, but without success.

The auto setting does not put the first capture of the series into a instance of Camtasia, it does not put it in the media bin and also puts no clip on the timeline. The only way to get a file is to deactivate the auto function and set it on saving. But this kind of workflow is not practical. Do you have any idea where else I could find a solution for my problem?

As a long time user of Camtasia.
I would run a repair install.
Its my go to move for suddenly appearing odd glitches . Which what you're describing is.

However, it sounds like you've encountered problems right off the bat.

This suggests you may have something unique to your system thats causing it. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with your computer.
One small anomaly can spur a glitch. An anomaly that doesn't seem to effect anything else.

For that reason I'm going to suggest contacting support.

If it were me,
A complete reinstall may be the quickest fix.
I would download Camtasia again. Theres a small chance something went wrong when you first downloaded it.  You can get it here.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

I would uninstall Camtasia and re-install with the fresh download.

It that doesn't correct it.......................

let's hope tech support can help

also ...

in Recorder's tools/options/file options, what is the listed output path?

the option for automatic file name must be selected before you can see the file picker

also, can you tell us the automatic file name prefix as shown in that text box?
