Stroke effect for arrows and shapes

I would like to be able to save an arrow/shape style that is a colored arrow/shape arrow with a white border.

For my help docs, I use a very simple style for graphics on screenshots: red boxes and arrows. So if I need someone to click a tab or icon, I draw a red square around it and point to it with the arrow. To make it show up clearly regardless of what else is on the page, usually I will draw a red box and then draw another white box 2px larger, which I put it behind the red box. Same for the arrow. I have presets for all this, but it would be nice to just save one arrow or box that has the white stroke effect I'm creating and save a lot of steps.

I should also mention that the approach I use doesn't really work that well for arrows, because the arrow heads increase in size more than the line of the arrow for each pixel of added line width. A uniform 1-pixel stroke effect would work a lot better.

Hi,

Thanks for your feature suggestion. We don't have this feature, but I did come up with two workarounds that might save you time in the overall process you are using.

Idea 1
I am wondering if you could sort of fake that look by using shadows?
Sort of like this:

Also, in regards to the arrow head growing too big, you can change that by going into the Arrow Editor page and setting the size for the arrow head:

If you have never accessed that page, you can find it here (when you add an arrow to the canvas and select it).

Idea 2
I also created a large red rectangle shape, flattened it, added a 2px white border, and saved it as a stamp.
Then, when I needed it, I just clicked on the stamp tool and used the red rectangle with white border. Since I made it quite large, it resized down very well.

Thanks again for the suggestion.  I wish we could have a solution for you versus a workaround.

I am a trainer and create curriculum.  I actually do (need) the exact same thing. I use red boxes and red arrows.  I really do believe an enhancement should be made for this feature.  However, I really like the workarounds Kelly made.  It's great for rectangles.  There is still the issue of the arrow though.  Can an enhancement be filed?  I'm using SnagIt 12.  I just upgraded.  Thanks.
