stuttering in sound track

I'm using Camtasia Studio 8.0.3 for PC.  After recording 30 seconds or so and then saving it, I notice that some syllables repeat when playing in  the editor timeline, as it the speaker had stuttered. If I go back and play it again it's ok.  Does anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks

First off I am sorry to hear you are having this problem. Did you mean you were using 8.3.0 the newest version available? If not then you might want to upgrade your Camtasia Studio. What kind of Microphone are you using when recording ? Is it a USB or Internal Microphone? I recommend a good USB Microphone as they have better quality. Now, I have never had this happen but, would you have a sample by chance to upload for us to see what it is doing and hear it? There are many things that can cause audio when recording into your computer that can and have gone wrong. Sometimes a sample and more information on your settings used can be or not be helpful for diagnosing a problem for audio. Let us know and thanks for posting. Have a great day.

Sorry for taking so long to respond.  It only happens when I'm editing.  The rendered file is always fine. I suspect it has to do with disk fragmentation.  When I put in a change it gets stuck out on the end of the disk, away from everything else and when I ask for it to be played again there' a problem pulling it from so far away. Rendering pulls it all together in one place again.

For preview (editing), we currently have a limited amount of time that we allow for audio processing; if that's exceeded, we'll use what we have and that can result in stuttering audio. As you've noted, the rules are different for production. We recommend that all files referenced on the timeline are from local storage (not on a network drive or some cloud-synced folder).

I'll second Fred's advice... there was an issue with MP4 files being slow to decode in earlier versions of CS 8, so installing 841 may resolve it.

Thanks Kevin.  I'll look at updating to 841.  I'm using 830 now (not 803 as I said at first).
