Support for Logitech Brio 4K webcam

I've just bought a Logitech Brio 4K webcam for its superb image quality and HDR (RightLight) capability. I've been enjoying using Camtasia for over a year now, and when I tried to record from the Brio webcam at 1080p@30fps the image looked terrible - as if it's VGA resolution.

The support pages state that 4K webcams aren't supported.

I'm really disappointed. Right now, 4K isn't necessary for me, but great image quality at 1080p is. The problem is that I can't record even an HD stream.

I'm a long-term user of Snagit from the corporate world (Morgan Stanley), and I bought it for my own use at home. I wanted to stick with a trusted company (Techsmith) for video editing also, but now I'm faced with having to buy yet more software to capture a video stream from this camera.

Logitech recommends SwiftCapture from Bensoftware, but I would rather avoid the additional step and £29 cost if possible.

Hi,
currently, the way Camtasia records from the webcam offers little control over settings such as resolution and frame rate. This is definitely something we need to work on.
In the mean time, I'd suggest recording the webcam with QuickTime (free), and then just adding it to your timeline. It's relatively easy to line it up with your screen recording.
  1. Open QuickTime Player.app
  2. choose File->New Movie Recording
  3. Adjust settings with the little 'v' next to the record button
  4. Record, Stop
  5. Save
  6. In Camtasia, drag the new video onto your timeline, and line it up with your screen recording.
I know this is not an ideal solution; I just want to get you something that works well so you can get back to work here, without having to buy anything additional.
