Switch capture modes during capture time

Too often people find themselves taking a capture with a hotkey, but then they find themselves starting a video capture. Then they remember that they had the Capture Window set to do a video capture because that was the last thing they’d done with Snagit. This is really frustrating. It’d be great if you could switch back to All-in-One or image capture right then. And not have to cancel your video capture, open the capture window, switch the tab, and then start a new capture.

I asked for this some time ago. Currently if you want to get the menu you need one hot key, if you want to do something else you need a different hot key. If you want to repeat the same selection widow you need a different hot key.  I use a BUNCH of applications and remembering the various special keys for all becomes a PIA. I really wish there was a single "hot key" I could tap and any and all of the options were available from that one window that came up. That was one of the very handy things about Snapz-Pro, one hot key for them all. It's funny you (Snagit) can do so much more but can't do the basic as easily. It would be something that I know I would LOVE to see.

A single hot key to rule them all and in the darkness bind them would be great and it could possibly have a little tweak to make it even better.

I have presets for different kinds of images.  Sometimes I want a border, sometimes not.  So I find myself with the right kind of capture but the wrong options are selected.  And since we have that stupid black outline around the image, I can't tell whether there is a border or not until I paste into the final material, which is way too late,

So I'm thinking that a Drop Down list with horizontal dividers for the different capture types, inside which there's a list of the presets for that capture type?  Just an idea.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Allow switching to image capture mode AFTER a video capture has started..

Sometimes I have the capture mode set to "video" and I forget or I 'm in a rush and I just want to take an image capture of the screen; however, when I press print screen, it brings up the video button to record a video.  There's no way to say "no, I meant for that to be an image capture".  In many cases, I can't go back and re-do it because whatever was on the screen has changed or is lost.  Please consider making it possible to accept the currently selected area as an image capture even when selected for video mode.

I voted this up. When I know that I want to switch, I go to the Windows start and search for the program Snagit. Which one is video? Red or Blue?  Just a little clue right there would help.

Snagit has become like oxygen for me - I am a software system designer and the biggest schlepp in my past 40 years has been documentation - Snagit has made my life so easy on the documentation side that my userbase is growing as I am about to retire at 72 - well done Snagit - youre IT.

Never said a truer word.  I am using SnagIt more in my retirement - and contributing more to this forum - in my retirement than I ever did before! :)

Happy retirement fellow senior citizen.

An idea for switching options, I use a CAD system called Solid Edge, it has a "radial menu."  When right clicking in a CAD model or drawing, options appear in a circular fashion, resting over the option selects it. This would be an interesting application for favorites also. or most commonly used functions to appear on?

This issue can be incredibly frustrating. It didn’t get the most votes or enough to put it in the top few, but we’ve heard of this in Tech Support and plenty of beta users have also expressed frustration. So based on the votes here and the conversations we’ve had with users, this causes way too much of a headache to go by without us taking a look at it. We will look at the other issues first because they did get more votes, but this will get some eyes on it after that. So, we are marking this one as Under Consideration for the time being, but just know it might be a little bit before we have an answer for you.

This will definitely require a bit of testing so if you’re interested in user testing or beta testing this, let us know here.

We appreciate your voting and your patience.

Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this roundup, as well as what has been implemented since our previous round.

Absolutely, please put me down for testing. If you wish to discuss my various levels of frustration with how Snagit complicates my workflow, I'd be delighted to elaborate. Mind you, I strongly appreciate all that Snagit does, it's just not at all efficient.
