OneDrive (formerly Skydrive) Integration for Snagit

Greetings TechSmith!
I've long been a (paid) SnagIt user and am very pleased with the product. However, recently I've come to realize there is a large shortcoming of the SnagIt product that I think would be a great feature to add.
With so many people using syncing tools like Microsoft SkyDrive and Google Drive, it would really be great if there were a way to sync our SnagIt capture libraries across multiple systems using one of these tools.
I've looked into this ability but it appears that the way the SnagIt database is designed, even if you sync the database itself across systems, unless you manually import it each and every time, other systems are not aware of new screenshots as they're taken.
If you could find a way to do this before any of your competition does (I haven't found any others that do this either) I think you'd find a fair return on your investment.
Thanks again for the great product.

Ability to Sync between Computers.

Microsoft has now announced free unlimited OneDrive storage for anyone with Office 365.  Windows 8 and 10 allow one to log into OneDrive as they boot their computer.  It's time to integrate OneDrive support into SnagIt.  Please.

With Office 365 Video rolling out, it would be extremely cool to have support for both OneDrive for Business and Office 365 Video in Snagit! Please add the support.

+1 for OneDrive request. My client has moved to Office 365 and they encourage us to keep all of our files on OneDrive.

With the February 24, 2015 updates to Snagit, we added integration with OneDrive for Business.  This is built right into Snagit and does not include an additional output download or install.  You can download the latest update here: http://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/. When you install, you will see a "My Places" output in Snagit and OneDrive is currently the only option there. Note: this is currently for OneDrive for Business only. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

That's a good new, one step in the right direction. I think you should be nearer to provide OneDrive integration to normal users too. Can you tell us what is the estimate to have OneDrive for normal users supported on SnagIt?

thanks

We do not have a target date for other OneDrive integrations at this time. When we do, an update will be posted here.  Thank you.

Given that OneDrive is the default save location for Windows 8/8.1/10 and is integrated with iOS and Android as a free application, it seems strange that you would focus on OneDrive for Business (which is a subset of SharePoint) instead of the larger, free, and more available OneDrive storage. Like everyone else in this thread, I recommend you make this integration a priority, as well as Dropbox (although some stats I've seen show Dropbox usage is dropping).

SnagIt is much better than the default snipping tool in Windows, but the default snipping tool has OneDrive integration. Unless you're targeting Chromebooks as your new platform of choice, the absence of OneDrive support is pretty glaring.

I don't see why this is marked as "implemented". It has been implemented for OneDrive for Business, but I doubt that that is what the original poster, nor the majority of posters to this thread, are looking for.

Agreed. It's certainly not helpful to me. I must confess some disappointment with TechSmith on this. First for dragging their heels and secondly for blowing us off with what is barely even half a solution.

With Microsoft introducing the new Snip tool for office:

I would think TechSmith would be even more motivated to integrate with OneDrive.

I have been a snagit purchaser for almost twenty years. It's always been one of the first things I install on any new system, and I've always strongly advocated it as indispensible for any technical writer.

With the new Office Snip Tool and TechSmith's steadfast neglect of OneDrive, I may stop using it and recommending it. This is partially practicality, but it's also emotional, as I am deeply tired of the fanboy suckup to Google products while Microsoft products get purposely ignored.

As others have noted, Windows 8 and Windows 10 integrate directly with OneDrive (NOT ONEDRIVE FOR BUSINESS) so Snagit's complete failure to support it - either natively or with a plug-in starts to look like an intentional snub more than "we'll get around to it." I would think if the OnetDrive for Business work is done, it can't be that much more work to connect to OneDrive Personal.

Prove us all wrong - just do it.

Not to add fuel to the fire here, but to me there is simply no comparison between the Windows Snipping Tool and SnagIt.

I'm so happy you authored this comment! I too have been a loyal Snagit fan and I recommend it to everyone. However, all the new cloud features are for Google and I am waiting for OneDrive integration. Specifically I want my Snagit library to live in my OneDrive so I can access it from any device within Snagit. This would be a killer feature.

I will have to check out the Microsoft Snipet tool more, but I guess they are tired of Snagit's love affair with Google.

+1 for OneDrive integration. Would recommend this product to my +100 coworkers if that integration was available because we all use OneDrive for Business now.

If Im not wrong Mac alredy has a nice built in screenshot tool. Plus I guess there are other free more than decent apps for Mac.

The team in question is Microsoft Garage team. They are a community of interns, employees, and teams from everywhere in the company who come together to turn their wild ideas into real projects.

Valid points Alpha.

@Stefan,
Yeah, I guess it would depend on what your definition of "winning" is. If you are going by pure customer base then sure, MS Snip would win because MS loves to shove their own products down everyone's throat by building it into their operating system, but you can't say that it is winning because of features that aren't available yet. TechSmith has features that aren't available yet too. Right now Snip is only what the Snipping Tool should have been the first time.

If you are talking about Grab it is very basic grab utility but it native output is TIFF about the largest graphic format on earth. You have to open as a separate application. Yes the other good screenshot utilities some actually have more features. But still prefer how SnagIt! Mac works. The closest competitor is Viola. It's annotation set is not as good both for screen shots and videos.

I have several and use them. But always come back to SnagIt! , because it happens to be the best for Mac.

in fact  Microsoft isnt doing enough to "shove " their own products. Many Mac users would want windows to be an out of box experience with decent built in apps for basic tasks like Mac OS is doing. Ofc Windows is far behing still lacking some modern built in free tools for productivity and creativity. (iWork, iMovie, iPhot, Garage band).

I dont know what other software is microsft showing on our throat. I guess you refered to the preinstalled mobile apps but those are not a burden for the system or for user experience. I personally like The MSN news, money and the other. Groove app comes together nicely even its  along way until  will match  all the capabilities of the ex Zune.

here is the Snip uservoice forums where you can see all the undergoing features

I'd love to get David Zink's input here as he has marked this feature as implemented but I think everybody still posting here would disagree.

I don't see how I can tag him to this post but I do see that he is following this discussion so hopefully he'll come by and offer his thoughts.

I work in technology, I fully understand there is a very real cost to implementing a technology like this and you have to believe that the time you spend implementing that technology will provide a return on that investment. However, I think something they should consider is the cost if somebody else does it first and begins to take their market share and licensing revenues.

8 months ago, Jennifer Bedford of TechSmith, had this to say:

"My Places is a new addition to Camtasia and will eventually serve as a centralized place to share all of your most used sharing options and platforms that are in your workflow.

SINCE MY PLACES IS NEW, WE'RE STARTING SLOW AND ONLY ALLOWING MY PLACES TO ACCESS ONEDRIVE FOR BUSINES FOR NOW SO WE CAN COLLECT USER FEEDBACK BEFORE WE DO FURTHER WORK ON MY PLACES.

So for now, My Places is where you would go to link your OneDrive for Business account to Camtasia, with the view of adding more options to your My Places button in the near future. And, yes, we are currently supporting One Drive for Business."

Emphasis in caps was added by me to draw attention to the most important part since the forums won't let me use bold text.

Source: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsm...

Based on the fact that it's been 8 months it seems they likely came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the investment to roll this out to OneDrive (for consumers) or even Google Drive though it'd be nice to have it on record so we can determine if this is something we're willing to live with or if we should find an alternative.

This is tangential to the discussion, but I assume that everyone is aware of the cutbacks to OneDrive storage?

If not, see
https://blog.onedrive.com/onedrive_changes/
and
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3000808/cloud-storage/onedrive-users-petition-microsoft-to-rethink-...

In short, free storage cut from 15 Gig to 5 gig, 15 gig "camera roll" storage gone, and Office 365 storage reduced from "unlimited" to 1TB.

Offering "unlimited" storage and expecting that not a single individual would abuse that and take the offer at its word; hey, what could possibly go wrong?

Still, even 5GB stores a lot of Snagit captures.

***UPDATE*** - Ooops. I just found the OneDrive for Business Integration... Thank you so much for adding this. Sorry I did not see or look for it before posting.

Can we please get this added? Either OneDrive or OneDrive for Business.

Yes, we know that OneDrive storage has been reduced but its really up to the end user right? I do a lot of captures that I would like to store up on Onedrive and then I can just link the files in an email.

Or OneDrive for Business. We have unlimited storage for free,

Please think about adding this. ODFB would be great to get integrated.

Currently I have to take a screen capture, save it to my desktop and then drag it over to OneDrive.
