I have created a video using Table of Contents, the video works fine on a PC but when I access the video on a cell phone for viewing the video is fine I can view the Table of Contents but it is no longer usable. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this. 90% of my viewers only have phones

Hello aragone,

Can you tell me what version of Camtasia you are using to create your production with?  Also when you say "cellphone" can you be more specific with what kind of phone you are using?  Also what web browser are you using on your phone?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

This is the Camtasia version,

Version 9.1.2 (Build 3011) - Mar 5 2018 (64-bit)

Samsung Galaxy S9 is what is in our fleet.

Chrome Browser,

These phones are controlled and locked down as to what can be installed.

BTW thanks for the same day response,

Thank you for getting me that information.  I noticed we do have a newer version of Camtasia 9 (9.1.5) available and I would recommend updating to that version.  You can download it here: https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

Our video player (TechSmith Smart Player) which plays back Camtasia productions on the web is the issue with what you are experiencing on your phones.  We continue to improve the TechSmith Smart Player to work better on mobile devices. Unfortunately with old versions of Camtasia like 9 we no longer update the TechSmith Smart Player with bug fixes and new feature support.  We have fixed this in the newer versions of Camtasia and the TechSmith Smart Player gets auto updates.  So when the next version of Camtasia is released, Camtasia 2019 will continue to get TechSmith Smart Player updates.

We do have a help article that guides you to manually update the TechSmith Smart Player for any of your productions.  You can follow the instructions for Camtasia 2018, 9 section as long as you have updated to Camtasia 9.1.5.

Once you have updated the TechSmith Smart Player to the latest version let me know if you are still running into issues.  The table of contents should work great on that device and browser.

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,  followed your steps exactly to the "T" still the same issue.  The video plays on the phone the ToC 's are viewable but when you try to select one it does nothing. On the PC it works like a champ. Any other ideas?

Hi aragone,

Could you track down what version of Chrome you are using on your phone?  By chance are you able to seek the video ok using the video progress bar ok on the phone?

Thanks,
Ben

Thank you aragone for that information.  I'll do some testing on my end to see if I can reproduce the issue you are experiencing.  In the meanwhile, could you test this video on one of the phones and see if the Table of Contents is working?

Ben, I tested your video and it is doing the same thing, I can see the table of contents, but I cannot select that section. It is doing exactly what mine is doing.

Hi aragone,

Thanks for taking a look at that.  I am seeing the same thing on my end.  It is also an issue on iPhones as well.  We will work on fixing this issue quickly.

aragone,

I just shipped a fix for the TOC issue on mobile devices to our CDN.  Smart Player 5.51.1 should work now on new Android and iOS browsers. You can grab the latest version using the help article I had linked above.  Thank you again for bringing the issue to our attention.  Sorry it took so long to get the fix out.
