Once we have tagged a file in the Snagit Library, it is difficult to see in the library view, what snag has what tag other than via the view in the navigator with is often not useful as it is better suited to seeing what is already tagged with a given tag
I am suggesting viewing tags by hovering over and image or better yet a small window or space on the bottom bar that will show what tags have been assigned to a selected image. The small "tag assigner" module on the lower left is too small and keeps closing
I am not speaking of a rewrite of the tag system, just some GUI tweaks to make the tags more apparent and more useful. A good start would be a pin on the tag assigner to just keep it open whle clicking through images

In my view, tags are simply "metadata" that you get to add to an image for the purposes of classification. For example, I may have perhaps 24 images that are all part of one project. I create a tag to represent that project and associate it with all 24 images. This would then allow me to easily locate all images associated with said project.
If it's truly as you say, it would seem the Windows operating system would only ever contain a single image, because each image would require a discrete tag name, no?
Perhaps one of the SnagIt developers will pop in here to offer some clarification on exactly how they really work?
Cheers... Rick :)

So many apps separate metadata from the files. You need a library, for operational speed (you can't read the metadata from file all the times.) But when you keep it private to the library, that's when problems start. You see this with photo apps. Which is why I manage my photo collection with Daminion - there's a lot that SnagIt could learn from that app.

Yes, as Rick S said, tags right now have been designed to help you classify captures, among other things:
Another thing that seemed interesting is the idea of nested tags:
https://bear.app/faq/Tags%20&%20Linking/Nested%20Tags/
the same advantage as tags but with a folder feel.

Soooo, we know that the actual "datastore" is located here:
C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Local\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore
How are the tags managed? Surely there is a file (or files) or maybe even a Windows Registry Key somewhere that stores the tags?
Thanks... Rick :)
