the player seems like a great idea. except...
I have downloaded app for my iPhone 4s but videos just load and load for ages. normal option loads much faster.
I wonder if you offer statistics. recently came across a player that provide deep user usage statistics which can be invaluable for business. don't like to choose statistics or interactivity.
also the need for downloading a separate app is a bit of a downer.

Hi Robert,

I think there may be an issue with the current iPhone app for the SmartPlayer, we're still trying to figure that out.

In general, the need for the separate app is just for the iPhone specifically, since it wasn't able to offer us the flexibility we needed to provide a interactive player. Ultimately, I think we would love to offer it without needing a separate app, but that may not be possible until Apple concedes a little more functionality.

As for statistics, I think the most we can do at the moment is that quizzing will allow you to get a notification when a user finishes the video. But I think you would need at least one quiz question in the video, which isn't optimal. We may add viewer metrics in the future though. We do get requests for that enhancement.

Hello Robert,

The smart player does support sending some statics to a Google Analytics account. The player can provide some information like:

  • How long it took a video to load

  • How much of the video a user has watched

  • Hotspot actions (did the user click on a hotspot link for example).

  • Did a user reach the end of a video?

Right now the easiest way to get this functionality is to use It may be possible to expose this option in a future release of Camtasia Studio 8.
