At TechSmith, our mission is to make it easy for anyone to create and share images and videos to improve teaching, training, and communication.

In order to deliver this mission, we partner with our customers to learn about their priorities, challenges, workflows, and desired learning outcomes, and three global themes have emerged:

  • making content accessible

  • making content engaging for intended audiences

  • providing easy to use content creation and sharing tools

We are excited to announce that we are enhancing our product portfolio to better align and streamline our solutions around these themes.

The first enhancement involves our video learning platform, TechSmith Relay. Over time, Relay has evolved to match the needs of education and is much more than relaying media files back and forth.

As such, on June 16, 2020, TechSmith Relay changed its name to TechSmith Knowmia, along with moving to an orange brand color. Knowmia is a stronger representation of the value the service brings to our customers and TechSmith’s commitment to help people “Show what they know.”

In addition to this brand change for our enterprise-level customers of Knowmia, TechSmith is excited to announce that Knowmia is now also available to individual customers for the first time as Knowmia Pro. To learn more about this new tier of Knowmia and see how you can start a free trial or subscribe on a monthly or annual basis, please visit our Knowmia product page.

These deeper investments to our portfolio are aimed at helping you achieve your outcomes in the easiest way possible. Watch for further feature expansion, product enhancements, and improved workflows across the TechSmith portfolio as we continue to evolve to best match the changing needs of educators globally.

Thanks for the heads up!

This name reminds me of the time I spent watching the Netflix series Sense8. There was a character in that series that was named "Nomi". I believe it meant: Know Me.

Curious about the name here and the decisions as to the name. I get that Know is related to the teaching aspect. But I find myself a bit baffled at the mia part.

The word "mia" means "mine" in Latin and Italian.

So Knowmia loosely stands for "my knowledge", which goes with TechSmith's tagline of "Show what you know".

Hope that helps!

Before I answer, I must point out that the year was 1999....
it's a combination of "Camera" and "Fantasia" because it sounded 'cool' at the time.

(at least, according to TechSmith Lore, as this was before I joined in 2002)

It's not bad. Some TS Product names (snagit, Coach's eye, Relay) are arguably straightforward and some (Camtasia, Morae, Knowmia) are a bit more abstract and invite these questions.

As Camtasia's progenitor seems to be SnagIt, the Camtasia name seems rather appropriate to me.

So I think one of the questions I have from skimming over the Knowmia pages is: is there a breakdown of the feature-set of Individual vs. Enterprise?

Is TechSmith offering individual users the same set of features that came to Relay/Knowmia users, it's just that Sales has to design a contract price to account for volume discounting?

There are several additional capabilities for Knowmia Enterprise over Knowmia Pro (for individuals). These can be found on our Knowmia FAQ page.

Also will post that info here for ease:

Why upgrade to Enterprise?

Knowmia Enterprise offers all the great features of Knowmia Pro, but adds even more capabilities that help make using Knowmia an even better experience for a larger team, or an entire educational institution or workplace.

Some of these additional capabilities include:

  • Single Sign-On (SSO)
  • Admin controls
  • Additional privacy and security options
  • LTI integration with several LMS’s (ie. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L)
  • Zoom integration
  • Integration with transcription services (ie. 3Play and Verbit)
  • Dedicated Customer Success Manager and on-boarding

For a complete list of Knowmia Pro vs Knowmia Enterprise capabilities, check out this Knowmia Feature Comparison Chart.
