Like you, we’re excited about seeing what Windows 10 has to offer.  We recently took some time to try out a number of our applications on the Windows 10 Technical Preview.  Specifically, we looked at how the currently available versions of our applications performed on the current version of the technical preview.  Below you can find our observations about issues you may encounter if you are also trying out the technical preview and using our products.

Snagit
Capture:
  • When taking a capture, the cross hairs are not always snapping to a full O/S or browser window. It is also snapping to random areas of the screen that don't even have windows. When this happens, the click and drag method to capture the area still works fine.
  • Scrolling is not always an option in the browser. Sometimes hovering over a webpage will show the scroll icons and the next time it might not.

Jing
Capture:
  • When taking a capture, the cross hairs are not always snapping to a full O/S or browser window. It is also snapping to random areas of the screen that don't even have windows. When this happens, the click and drag method to capture the area still works fine.

Camtasia
Produce:
  • Producing to .wmv can result in visual artifacts in the produced file.

Relay
Webcams:
  • Removing an attached webcam causes the TechSmith Recorder to crash.
  • Internal webcam may not show up in recorder preview. If this happens, restart the computer.
Sound:
  • Heavy use may cause the sound quality to degrade.  If this happens, restart the computer.

Morae
Recordings:
  • Importing .wmv’s may cause the application to freeze.  If this happens, restart the computer.
Export:
  • Videos won't play in Windows media player.
Produce:
  • Video clips failed to display, maybe window media player related. (PowerPoint, Screencast)
Event Capture:
  • Not getting all the events.

Coach's Eye
Record:
  • Attempting to record with the Surface Pro 1 displays the message that the camera cannot be accessed.  May be corrected with updated drivers.   (Surface Pro 1)
Library:
  • Only grid view displays.   (Surface Pro 1)

Fuse
Settings Menu:
  • Can't reach the side settings menu.
Uploads:
  • Unable to cancel upload to Relay.
Profile:
  • Relay profile info doesn't display.  (Surface Pro 2)

For now, we’re only seeing minor issues, and as the preview is at an early stage, we’re not yet planning any fixes.  As the Technical Preview continues to evolve, we will continue to check out how things look with our products; we’ll come back here occasionally with updates as we discover new things.  As Windows 10 evolves and gets closer to release, we’ll also be able to share information about any pending or delivered fixes we may need to make.

We are committed to ensuring the latest versions of both Snagit and Camtasia will work on Windows 10. We are continuing to test and evaluate our products on Windows 10, and will continue to do so even after it launches to ensure that we are delivering the best user experience with TechSmith products.  In addition to testing Snagit and Camtasia, we are also testing Jing and Morae as well.
Watch here for specifics on any known issues leading up to the official Windows 10 launch, and for updates on plans to address any such issues.
