TechSmith Smart Player skip back / forward controls

Today we released an update to the TechSmith Smart Player that adds two new controls to the player.  This version is 5.62.0.  It is available today when publishing locally using Smart Player with the latest versions of Camtasia and when hosting video on Screencast.com or TechSmith Knowmia Pro.

This update is focused around providing viewers a quick way to jump back and forward within a video.

We've also added keyboard shortcuts to jump back and forward as well using the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys.

If you are hosting the TechSmith Smart Player there are a few settings you can manually set in the produced HTML player file.

You can turn off these controls by adding:
TSC.playerConfiguration.skipVideoControlsEnabled = false;
You can change the time that is skipped with each use of a control or keyboard shortcut.  (The default value is 5 seconds)
TSC.playerConfiguration.skipVideoDuration = 10; // skip 10 seconds
Love to hear any feedback.

Thanks,
Ben

Correct, there is no way to have custom settings for these features on screencast.com right now.

I've cleared browser cache several times; have checked player version in new production; it is 5.62, but no new controls show on local production

I'll keep trying, but any other thoughts?

Can you check the css file in your production and make sure it is also 5.62.0 as well?  There should be a comment at the top of that file if you open it in a text editor.

"Just Works" TM here.  Videos host on Screencast embeded in a iframe via Moodle are great.

Ben, I'm wondering what is the appropriate forum for Smart Player/Screen Cast feedback unrelated to this enhancement?

Because I have some strong feelings about the Screen Cast product, but I don't want to derail this innovation.

I would just make a new post with the "idea" tag.  I'd love to read your feedback.

Thanks,
Ben

these forward/back player controls are still not showing when productions are played locally, or off a web site; TechSmith Smart Player v5.62.1

I only see them when viewing off screencast.com

now using Camtasia 2020.0.5.

productions now use SmartPlayer v5.64.0

skip forward/back controls still do not display in local productions, nor in productions hosted on web site

they only show when hosted on screencast.com

will they become available for local/web site hosting?

I found out what was causing the skip controls to not show up locally.  Camtasia was setting the following legacy configuration option the the [production-name]_player.html.
TSC.playerConfiguration.setAllowRewind(-1);
If you remove that line then the skip controls will show up.  I think I'll make a future release to just ignore this config setting all together in favor of the new setting.

Sorry I did not see this earlier,
Ben

thanks; that works

it would help if those controls could be set to show/not show by a production setting

there are some types of productions where the viewer should not see those options; thinking of sc.com hosting here
