TechSmith products and Yosemite (Mac OS X 10.10) beta

Greetings, fellow Mac fans!

We had a lot of staff tuned in to watch the WWDC announcements this week and saw many things to get excited about. We got our hands on Yosemite the same day it was announced and have been working with it, to see how our products perform on the very early beta.

Snagit
We discovered what appears to be a bug in the current beta build of Yosemite that prevents Snagit for Mac from capturing to PNG. So if you depend on Snagit, we would not recommend updating to Yosemite beta at this time.

Camtasia
Camtasia 2.8.0 does not work on the current Yosemite beta but we plan to release an update before the end of June that should address this.

Jing
Testing on Jing is still in progress. We will update this thread as we have news.

The question people often want to know is “When will ____ product work on Yosemite?” Our primary goal is to ensure that our products will work on the final, released version of Yosemite. Because new bugs and issues can be introduced and then resolved during the OS development, we don’t promise that TechSmith products will work on every beta build of the OS. That would be like hitting two fast-moving targets. That said, we will continue to test against the beta and make updates to TechSmith products when possible.

Click the “Follow” button above to be kept informed as we have news or updates.

UPDATE October 29, 2014:

We've released updates for Snagit 3.x and Camtasia 2.x for Yosemite support.

We are aware of an issue in Snagit 3 when attempting scrolling capture within Safari that will be addressed in a future release.

Snagit 2.x does not work on Yosemite and there is no current plan to add support.

Jing is not officially supported in Yosemite, but in our experience it will work.  You may run into some issues if you are using external monitors. Other customers have reported seeing a "Blocked Plug-in" message for videos in the Jing preview window, but sharing your video will still work okay.

I'm going to be closing this thread for comments, but that does not mean we do not want your feedback. Feel free to start a new thread for any questions or issue you encounter, or utilize our free Technical Support at http://support.techsmith.com

Great looking and waiting patiently for the Camtasia update. With FinalCutProX down its a good time for Camtasia to swoop in...

Image Captures in OS X Yosemite Cause Exception.

When taking image captures in OS X Yosemite (dev preview), exception raised post-capture when going to SnagIt Editor.

Can't wait for SnagIt to work w/ Yosemite.  I'm REALLY missing it.  Whether you guys fix it or it's a fix made in a new build I'll be happy.  Hope it happens soon.  I'll gladly eat the dog food as a beta tester.

Just to confirm, same result with new build.  Unfortunately, setting output to png, gif, jpg has no impact on result.

We released Camtasia for Mac 2.8.1 today.  It has been working for us in Yosemite, but we have not done any real extensive testing with it yet.  Let us know if it does not work for you, but remember, we don’t promise that TechSmith products will work on every beta build of the OS.

Any hope for a SnagIt update to help those of us who are working on development on Yosemite?

Hi Jordan,

Yes, the version I was referring to being released is version 3.1.0, which was released last Thursday.

I'll have you check a few things that might be causing the editor issue:

1) Exit Snagit
2) Open Activity Monitor and filter on Snagit: https://db.tt/beHoPyK1
3) Select each one and end the process
4) Relaunch Snagit
5) Make sure the "Preview in Editor" option is turned on: https://db.tt/uBhP6X6S

If you're still seeing the trouble, go ahead and open a support ticket here: https://support.techsmith.com/anonymous_requests/new

Thanks and sorry for the trouble,

Jason

I'm working on Yosemite compatibility for Snagit:mac...  and I'm NOT aware of issues opening existing images with v3.1.x.   PLEASE open a support ticket. Are we talking about files of type .snagproj or images in another format?  Screen shots of errors, console logs, anything that might help is appreciated...

I opened a ticket and got a response "Thank you for contacting us. I am afraid that Snagit for Mac is not currently supported on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite." This is from Nate in tech support.  That aside I'm happy to say that after Beta 4 update today SnagIt is working correctly again. I'm not had time to really test everything but so far its working for image snags.

Will it have mass export? Don't hold your breath. At least a command line utility to use with a Hazel or Automator rule. It's propritary so you would think the CLI fix would be simple enough. Not sure where Mac fits into the TechSmith long term goals, but if the mass export is any indication, no where where it needs to be.

We are in the process of developing a way to export multiple .snagproj files into shareable formats (png, jpg, etc.).

How do I upgrade to 3.x. When I click on Check for Update it says 'You are up to date! Snagit 2.3.0 is currently the latest version available.'

Snagit on mac 3.x is a paid upgrade from version 2.x. I'm not sure why you're not seeing a message with a link, but this is where you should go: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit-upgrade.html

Going from the official public beta, which Snagit 3.1.0 was working just fine, to the new DP5 release, it's again not working.  I can't capture anything, nor open any files with the editor.

Not working with new DP6 either! Could you give an update on whether you are actively working on fixing it or understand the issue, talking to Apple about fixing it if they are to "blame" or just hoping it will be fixed in some update before the official release.

Well, with DP6 I am able to get 2.3 to at least capture images.  However, none of the editing tools work.

Good Morning,

Thank you all for sharing the problems you're seeing with the previews for Yosemite and Snagit. We are actively testing and fixing the issues as we find them. We have a release coming up in the next week or so, but with DP6 just coming out, we have already locked down development for the next release.

The team will be discussing the Yosemite situation as a whole this morning and determining when we can get a maintenance release out. Depending on the severity of the new issues, we'll hopefully have a better idea of when we can get Snagit up and running again for you all.

We will keep you posted, and thank you again for taking the time!
