Text Rotation on Step objects

I use Steps a lot to annotate screen shots with reference letters / numbers that I then explain in external text.

When I am pointing at a horizontal object I rotate the step to vertical orientation. - see below.  I would like the option for the step number / letter to remain in horizontal orientation to make it easier to read please.

I am aware there are step shapes that have a slightly downward pointing arrow, but the image below is a crop of a larger image that has horizontal steps, and I don't like mixing step shapes on the same image.

Hi Paul,
This is a great suggestion! I have never noticed the lettering/numbering doesn't turn the right way!

As a workaround to get the look you need, I:
  1. Created a stamp in the design from your image and flattened it.
  2. Removed the number and filled with gray.
  3. Used the Text tool to add sequential numbers and saved each one as a PNG image.
  4. Added those to a stamp folder for easy access. They looked like the stamps in the following image.

I know it would be MUCH better to have the Step Tool act in the manner you describe, but if you use these all the time, it might be worth the 5 minutes it takes to create your own custom stamps to suit your needs.

Thanks for the great idea!

Ditto - for other callouts and shapes as well.

It's even more complex than that!
The drop shadows are rotated too!

This post is over three years old. The last update to this is over a year old and, it seems, the feature has yet o be implemented. The initial responses were so positive, I am disappointed to see this still doesn't work.

It is such a disappointing limitation as well as no way of adding a border and have white steps with a bright border.
