The ability to blur or cover private information on a screenshot

Many times when I take a screenshot, I'm showing directions on how to do something.  When I take screenshots, there is often private or personal information I don't want to share.  Here are my ideas on how to solve this issue:

1. Have a blur box "stamp" that is similar to the outline box, but instead of an outline, creates a 5% blurry box to mask private information.  The blur would be provide transparency, so you could see what was underneath, but it would be blurred enough to protect information or details.

2.  Instead of the outline feature, have a box feature so I can cover information up with a black or white (or any other default colors) box.  This would completely hide private information on the screenshot when finished editing.

I could see use for both of these.  When I was using this app last night, I had to default back to the regular Snagit software in order to blur private information.  (The ability to snag something using the extension and send it to the full app would also be a pretty nifty request.)

Please realize that this product is still in beta, on a new platform for Techsmith, and a lot of what Techsmith developers can achieve depends on what Google allows them to do from a technical perspective. SnagIt for Windows was Techsmith's first product many years ago.

Please understand that I'm a huge fan and supporter of TechSmith and their beta release of Snagit for Chrome.  I do not know the abilities nor limitations by Google or the TechSmith developers.  TechSmith has done a great job of requesting and responding to feedback, suggestions, and ideas.  Because they have asked for suggestions and ideas, I have proposed one based on a need that I have.  I appreciate constructive feedback and responses as well.

This was a great catch Laura. I think it would be a valuable addition as the tool continues to be developed. And from the developer response below, it seems that the folks at Snagit agree too :)

Hi Laura,

Great idea!  We have lots of ideas for features to add as we move forward, but I think we forgot about a tool for covering sensitive information.  We will keep it in mind and update this topic if and when we decide to implement it.

Thanks for the feedback, and don't hesitate to post more things you'd like to see in Snagit for Chrome.

+1 for a blur and blackout tools.  These are essential with many screenshots designed for tutorials.
