This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.....

I work at a large Health institution and we have been getting a message that says "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose "switch to" to activate the busy program and correct the problem.
This is happening frequently on Windows 10, 64 bit machines.
The version of snag is 11.3.
This is getting quite annoying and uninstalling and re-installing does not help.
Is there a fix for this?

That is a windows issue but I would take it to support anyway
I hate it too but Snagit may not be the culprit

This has happened with every version of SnagIt I've owned - and that over 16 years.

Either TechSmith still has no idea why it happens or it doesn't care.  It's maddening.

Yes it is maddening and like most errors it doesn't give the first hint of what other program is interfering so you can at least go and close the other program. The "switch-to" doesn't often take you to the problem

I agree Rick. I occasionally get this error and SnagIt is always running so, I believe if it were related to SnagIt and not a Windows issue, the error would be popping up constantly

I have a brand-new, expensive computer (Windows 10, which has been working beautifully) and a brand-new copy of Snagit (2019)  and so far it hasn't happened but I definitely do not rule out that it might again.

For me it used to switch between the Start Menu and the program no matter what I did.

I would have to reboot a few times until it went away - for a day or two.

When the message pops up for me and I acknowledge it, I am simply taken to the 'Start menu.' Not much help. Like Rick alludes to, it would be nice if the pop-up actually told you the name of the offending program.

Okay, so let's say it's Windows (which I personally don't believe).

If it's Windows, then SnagIt has had plenty of time to find out *what* it is in Windows and fix it.

If it's Windows, why have I never, not a single time, had this problem with another Windows program?

If you have the time or inclination, you could do as I have and turn off programs that start when Windows starts and see if you still get the pop-up, as I have. I wasn't about to dig in to the registry though and try to find other programs to disable. I just disabled startup items using the 'Task Manager>Startup' tab.

I'm very happy with how things are going right now, thanks, but I had the problem with Snagit on other computers and tried that method to no avail.   We should not have to guess.  This is a problem for SnagIt to fix.

Sorry you don't believe it
It is a windows error
  1. It can be triggered by a hidden modal window amongst many other things
  2. Snagit has an issue with modal windows not coming to the front
And with that I am outa here. Good luck with it

It has never happened with any other program and there are other screen capture programs out there which work fine with Windows,

Therefore, to my mind, it makes no sense that SnagIt has not figured out how to work with modal windows since it is obviously not an insurmountable problem.

Nor did it just start happening yesterday.

Windows is the bigger player here so SnagIt should get on the ball.  Mixrosoft is not going to change its code for Techsmith.
