To use Snagit's video features, you must install the Media Feature Pack for Windows

Today I was prompted to update Snagit so I did, and now when I try to take a video a pop-up appears saying "To use Snagit's video features, you must install the Media Feature Pack for Windows".  So I downloaded the Media Feature Pack for Windows and tried to install and it won't install.  There is a pop-up saying "This update is not applicable to your computer".  I made sure I downloaded the 64-bit version of the media pack since I have a 64 bit version of Windows installed on my laptop.

What do I do?  I cannot capture video now.

I think it's a bug in the check for media pack. I'm on windows 7 profession (no N), and have media services enabled under windows components. I can create and upload the videos, but I get that error message every time.

Is there a solution to this problem (that is posted a month ago) yet? I just upgraded the latest Snagit Version from 12.1 to 12.2, and encountered exactly the same problem as reported by cinco. Now I can't use an impt feature of Snagit program! I am using Win7 Enterprise SP1.

i'm having the same issue with Windows 8.1 Pro, I have the latest updates and  have Media Center so the media pack should already be present. I get the same error when I try to install it.  I can however capture video if I ignore the error prompt.

Really annoying.

I have the same issue. I have downloaded and installed the Media pack as suggested for x84 Windows 8.1 (fully patched) and after several reboots I still see this message each time I attempt to capture video. === Snagit 12.2.0.1656 [enu] Diagnostics ===

Today (22/10/2014) I was prompted to update Snagit so I did, and updated to latest version (12.2.1 (1968)). Now when I try to take a video a pop-up appears saying "To use Snagit's video features, you must install the Media Feature Pack for Windows". So I downloaded the Media Feature Pack for Windows and tried to install and it won't install. There is a pop-up saying "This update is not applicable to your computer". I made sure I downloaded the 64-bit version of the media pack since I have a 64 bit Windows 7 Enterprise version of Windows installed on my comapny laptop. I can however capture video if I ignore the error prompt. The error prompt is however very annoying and disturbing since the video capture will start with the error message on screen. Official Rep S. Logan indicated to open a support ticket as mentioned in this feedback treat above. So I did. However I wanted to all let you know as the issue is still not resolved with the latest version 12.2.1 build 1968...

Just an update on this; please see below conversation I had with TechSmith support specialist Mike Sprink. It seems there's still a bug in the current version 12.2.1 (1968):

The way you are doing it is hitting a bug we have. Our next release of Snagit is going to fix that bug which will be out very soon. Until that is out you'll need to start it from the capture window or click the message like you have been doing. But it will be fixed moving forward. Sorry for the trouble in the meantime.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Kind Regards,

Mike

This is how I start the video capture: Profiles --> Capture profiles --> Video

I’m not using the “Capture Window” on top as I don’t like it at all and is disturbing in other screen sharing applications such as TeamViewer, Lync and GoToMeeting.

Hi ARFO0210,

How are you starting your video capture? If you start your video capture from here does it work?

Ver 12 has been one frustrating experience. I've stuck with this product for years but I need some help. I click check for updates to get 12.2.2 (currently have 12.2.0 and get only the spinning ball for 30 minutes while it's checking.

FYI: Tech support solved this issue for me today on Win 10 N by pointing me to a different version of the Windows Media Feature Pack at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3099229 (I just used the 64 bit version and it worked like a charm in my case)

Revisiting this thread after a year... the latest Windows 10 update to Version 1703 (April 2017) again broke the functionality of Snagit for video recording with the same error message.

Here is the link to the latest Media Feature Pack for N edition of Windows 10 Version 1703 (April 2017) if anyone else needs it:
