Too much mouse movement required under SnagIt 4 for Mac

I am a big fan and user of SnagIt, but, I find that version 4 for Mac is making me work too hard and do too much mouse travel to accomplish the same tasks as in SnagIt 3 for Mac. In SnagIt 3 all of the tools are in a compact area on the right side of the Editor window and I may have to move the mouse an inch or two to access different tools. But, in SnagIt 4 the toolbar is now centered at the top of the Editor window and I have to move the mouse half way across the screen to select a different tool and then move it back to select property options. This is inefficient.

Same for the Effects and Properties tabs, they are at the bottom of the screen in SnagIt 4 (way away from the tools) and at the top in SnagIt 3 (right near the tools). Again this causes excessive mouse movement where it really isn't needed.

While the SnagIt 4 UI is cleaner looking than the the SnagIt 3 UI, it is much less functional from an efficiency standpoint.

Please consider making SnagIt 4's UI more user friendly by not making us have to move the mouse all over the place to access different Tools or Effects. This could be accomplished by one or more of the following suggestions:

  1. giving users a Preference on what UI they would like to use, the SnagIt 3 or SnagIt 4 UI
  2. allowing users to assign hot-keys to tools under SnagIt 4
  3. Setting up some key strokes that allows a user to cycle through the tool icons while leaving their cursor hovering over the Tools properties area or some other screen location (Please no finger gymnastics, just a simple Tab/Shift-Tab or Arrow Right/Left Key stroke to cycle to the next or previous Tool)

Hi,

Thanks for this feedback, we will see what we can do to make things easier. One thing that exists already that may help you out is hotkeys for switching tools. If you look at the tools menu, you can see the hotkeys for each tool. I hope this helps!

I completely missed those shortcuts. They definitely help and extremely reduce mouse movement.

But, I still like the compact UI that SnagIt 3 had as well.

Thanks
