I recorded a webinar in Gotowebinar and want to edit it in Camtasia. Format is .wmv. AFter importing, I get message saying that I should transcode video before importing. And if i try to continue editing, camtasia locks up. How do I transcode video and to what format?

Hi stuart,

One program people around here use is Handbrake.  You could reencode as WMV if you like (or any of our other supported video formats), but the key for best performance is to reencode at a Constant Bitrate.  WMV, AVI, MP4 are my first off-the-cuff suggestions.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Aaron

I have to disagree with the MP4 recommendation. When you have an MP4 source, even something as simple as dragging the play head a single frame comes with a latency that is unavoidable because of how processor dependent MP4 as a format is.

When I have an MP4 source, I use Camtasia to transcode. I've found that the TechSmith2 AVI codec does a great job of preserving quality while moving my data to a codec that I can then edit without any perceivable latency.

I had the same problem and it took a few hours to finally find the solution.  The Handbrake solution above didn't work because it wouldn't properly read the recording file.  The issue is that GotoWebinar uses its own codec.  To resolve this, install their codec and get their video converter, both located here (along with a decent description of the issue and instructions)
