In my project where 2 clips are butted up to each other, when i use a transition with animation ("page turn" in the screenshot below), the background of the transition is black until it reaches the second clip in the timeline - how can I make this so the second clip is shown in the background?

CS8 works in a top down manner.
Test these options.

Option I:
1. Take a screen capture of one of the 2 clips.
- or -
2. Make a static Title Clip .PNG image in Snagit.

Add the capture image in a new track above the two clips to be joined.

Center this capture in the middle of Transition, and make it the same length as the Transition you have chosen.

Playback to see if you like what you see.

Experiment by making this clip slightly shorter than the Transition length.
Playback to see if this produces the effect you want...
This should produce the effect you want.

Option II:
The black screen you see is the default background color.
You can change this to another color, or you can use your own default background image placed on the lowest track of your project.

Does this help?

I suppose if that's the ONLY way around it, and the solutions work (i haven't tried them yet), it helps, but i don't think it's a fix - it's a workaround (and one that I didn't have to do in Camtasia Studio 7)

Honestly, I consider this a bug that should be fixed in a (near) future release - i have too many projects for work w/ transitions to want to take screen shots of every frame after a transition, and add it to the project - seems like a LOT of overhead for something that should work out of the box.

I agree! The transitions for flip, fold, page roll, and page turn all create this problem so that they are virtually unusable. I too consider this a bug that needs fixing.
