Trying to extend Smart Player

I like the general features supported by the Smart Player, including how you can set up quiz data and links to markers, etc. I'm not a huge fan of the current interface as it feels a little klunky to me. There are some really nice skinned players showing up including jPlayer that is JQuery JavaScript library. I'd like something that makes it just a little easier to navigate and the current table of contents simply pops out so you can't see the full screen at the same time you're interacting with the TOC.

So.. Just wondering if there is 1) A more in depth set of instructions one could follow on how to get richer experience 2) A way to use other players (I'm guessing not if one wants the hotspots, quizzes, etc). I feel stuck as I want a richer experience for my users but can't figure out how to get it with the current player.

Any suggestions?

Hey Mark,

Check out this video and article for more information on the Smart Player: http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-8-what-you-should-know-about-techsmith-smartplayer.html
Hopefully that will help you out a bit.

As far as using another player, you are correct, you can't use another player if you want the features you mentioned. Videos need to be hosted on screencast.com or your own website, using the smart player, to enable hotspots, quizzes, etc.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I've seen the video. The features are nice but the video is 'what' not 'how'. I really need to be able to customize the player. Frankly, the existing navigation is a bit klunky (too many steps to show TOC, click section to jump to, hide TOC). What we need is more customization so you can control where the TOC shows up and how it's displayed. I suspect there may be more that can be done via CSS & such but there appears to be no documentation on how to customize look & feel.

are you looking to keep TOC always visible?

if so, you can do so by setting editing dimensions about 250 px wider than video, position video off to right, and produce with do not auto hide controls

Yes - that kind of works. Except I have lots of little pieces that really need to be shifted over to the right to allow for the wider dimension. One section, no problem. Many sections = a big pain in the neck.

use ctl-A to select everything on timeline; be sure square canvas crop selectors are off [set to move/resize mode]; with all selected, in canvas, grab with mouse and move; with a lot of selected objects, moves can take a while; go slow in small increments

alternatively, with all selected, change x position in visual properties tab

if you make mistake, use undo

kayakman that is great advice. Some might want a video of how to do that if you have one already available to share. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
