UI Improvements: Remove the prompt for Save project changes, remember last preset, etc

I suggest these UI Improvements

- Remove the prompt Save project changes after the project has been rendered. I haven't made any changes so why is it prompting me? It's annoying.

- Remember last preset I've used.

- Checking for new version and finding out that there's no new version shouldn't interrupt me

- To be able to set background of Basic callouts.

- To be able to expand a callout to fit the whole video rectangle. I just want a simple white background to put some text on so it can be shown before the video starts and also at the end.

the save prompt issue is irritating; has been reported as a misbehavior many times; I've never figured out what triggers it other than simply producing an otherwise unchanged project

re "set background of Basic callouts", are you unable to do so in properties?

re "expand a callout to fit the whole video rectangle", are you unable to do this manually in canvas?

You've posted to the MAC and Windows forum so I don't know if you use one operating system or both.

I don't know what preset you are referring to.What preset do you want Camtasia to remember? For Project settings, you can set a custom setting in preferences.

You can create custom Production settings as well.

But I'm guessing as to what preset your shooting for, so I might be way off base.

On Windows, If you want a White Background that you can put text on at the Beginning and End.
Instead of adding  White callouts. You could change the Canvas color to White. Provided you don't need the black canvas background for some other reason.

But there's no reason you can't expand a callout to fill the entire screen.

I know I'm coming in late on this but I stumbled across it when looking for something else.

1/ Remove the prompt Save project changes after the project has been rendered. I haven't made any changes so why is it prompting me?

It's because the .tscproj file isn't actually identical before and after the rendering; ONE line changes, even if you've made no changes yourself. Specifically, it triggers an autosave and right down near the bottom of the project file (which is actually nothing more than an XML file), the line:

 "AutoSaveFile" : "C:\\Users\\malreynolds\\AppData\\Local\\TechSmith\\Camtasia Studio\\9.0\\Auto-Saves\\TestLib16fcc548.autosave.tscproj",

will be different after the save, because it will point to the new autosave file.

2/ - Remember last preset I've used.

Assuming that you're referring to the properties of the various audio, video and other effects, yes, this is another annoying deficiency. There does not seem to be any way to do it.

3/ - Checking for new version and finding out that there's no new version shouldn't interrupt me

You can turn off the check entirely and just do it manually, but I think it's useful to be told if there is no more recent version than the one you're using. If it fails to show a dialog then the user really has no idea whether their version is the current one, or whether the check just failed.

4/ - To be able to set background of Basic callouts.

As Kayakman mentioned this is easy to do in Properties but I imagine that what you're getting at is that you can't change annotations to conform to your own colour palette.  The way I got around that was to create some annotations, set the background to my own colours, and as I did so, saved them into the library. It took some setup work but it only needed to be done once and at least I no longer have to fiddle with the colours when I insert an annotation; I insert the ones from my library instead.
