Unable to select stamps, shapes, etc, on image unless I have the corresponding tool selected :/

I just upgraded to Snagit 13.1.6 (I know you have a newer version, but this is the licence my company has right now, so I can't upgrade again.)

If I add a shape and a stamp to an image, I can't move them around by clicking on them unless I have the shape or stamp tool selected.  Here is my problem:  Add shape, add stamp, try to move shape, it adds a new stamp because stamp was the last thing I had selected.  I have to take the extra action of deleting the extra stamp and then click on shape before I can move it.  So infuriating!

Yeah, it's been my experience that you have to be a bit persnickety when clicking.

Personally, I seem to have a lot of success by simply clicking the Selection tool as a first step, then clicking the object I want to move.

Note that I've added the Selection tool to my toolbar in the SnagIt Editor.

Cheers... Rick :)

Thank you for your reply, Rick!  That's exactly what I've been doing, but my frustration comes from having to retrain myself to do it - I've been using Snagit for a very long time, and the actions are things I don't even think about. It just feels a lot more intuitive to be able to click on a stamp or a shape without having to take that extra step.

I do feel your pain as I experience it myself. I too am a long standing SnagIt user. But like anything, we find ourselves always having to adapt. I have a different piece of software that I've used for more than 20 years and it's being re-written from the ground up. Painful.

I suppose such is "progress", eh?

At least (for me) SnagIt seems to be intuitive. And I suppose that could be shaded by the fact I've tried to remain abreast of updates. So it's not like I'm making a quantum leap from perhaps version 10 to 2019 or something like that. I could see where that would be pretty jarring!

Cheers,,, Rick :)

If you want to edit several different objects.
What you want to do is select the move tool. The move tool allows you to select any object and start editing it. It behaves very much like the old SnagIt where you can select any object for editing purposes.
Once you click on an object the properties panel will switch to that object giving you access to those properties. And in the case of a text object. The in canvas text window may open as well.

I realize it requires an additional step to select the move tool.

There is one advantage to having the selected tool being restricted to only selecting annotations that it creates. It won't accidentally select other annotations in close proximity to it. Inadvertently changing the tooltip to the tool associated with the other annotations.

Older versions of SnagIt were prone to doing this quite frequently. I found that behavior very frustrating. This led to additional clicks to get me back to where I was.

I will add this. These newer versions of SnagIt using the move tool. Seem far more accurate and less prone to error than older versions with regards to accidentally clicking on other annotations.

Regards, Joe

Hi Elizabeth,
When you are adding Stamps or Shapes, etc, you are in that MODE for ADDING those objects. When in a mode, say STAMPS, you can ADD and SELECT stamps. Same for shapes. But, you cannot select a Shape.

BUT!!! If you press CTRL+9 on the keyboard, that will put you in a neutral mode (Called MOVE) then you are able to select whatever you need.

Do you think the hotkey will help?
