Hi Dan,

Upgrading from older versions should be supported. If you're getting an error, it might just be that something is preventing us from opening the project file? Do you have it open in CS7? Is it on an external drive or some sort of other weird path? Maybe just try making a copy of the project and opening the copy?

If none of that helps, you may just want to get in touch with support. We could get a copy of the project from you and diagnose the issue on our end.

Thanks, Randy. Tried all of the above. This is on a system where I've gone from CS 5 to CS 6 to CS 7 very easily before (with a minor known issue with lost audio under CS 7). But CS 8 on same system won't convert/migrate/backup the older projects at all. Strange...

Same here. Just installed CS8 and tried to open a CS7 file from an external HD created a few days ago and CS8 won't "upgrade" it.

We've seen a few of these in support today, and I think it just ends up being something complex in the project that doesn't upgrade correctly. One of them had clip speed applied and it caused the resulting clips in the new project to run in to each other.

At the very least, you're helping us find bugs that we can address in a maintenance release.

My apologies to anyone having trouble upgrading your projects. If you're alright with sharing those projects with us, feel free to open a ticket with support. We will post an update back here if we can find workarounds.

Hello,

One thing you could try is to export your old project as zip (use the menu "File->Export project as zip" to do it, it won't work if zipped in windows explorer) which will make all the content self-contained when extracted. You then import this zipped project in CS8 and go through the upgrading process and see if it helps.

Just tried. No luck. When I get time, I'll upload to support to let them see.

May it have anything to do with file size? Just tried zipping one of my projects and it came in at 222MB. So I looked for a smaller one to upload to Support and just happened to try to import it, and it went into CS8 just fine (Well, almost. Some of the callouts were messed up, but that's workable.) Wasn't able to see how much that one was zipped, but I'm guessing it would be under 100MB. Beyond size there's not much difference between the two projects.

I also tried looking into where the files were saved, meaning the camrecs being in the same folder as the project, but that doesn't seem to be the issue. However I could be mistaken on that one.

Jason, the zip for the project will pull in any media files that were on your timeline, so you probably just have a large clip that is being included. It's not uncommon for there to be a difference of hundreds of megabytes between project zip files.

Hi everybody. Here's what we're going to do for now. A tech support representative is going to get ahold of you (if you have an email address in your profile for this site) and direct you to a site where you can upload your zipped CS7 projects. We will take a look internally and try and isolate the problem on those projects.

This will be a little faster than pushing all of you through support.

If you don't get an email, it's because I (as a moderator of this site) couldn't see it, most likely because you chose not to register it.

I am also having this issue. Running 8.0.2 Build 918. Upgrading from 7.1.1.

Looking forward to hearing from support. Thanks
