Windows 7 Dell laptop. SnagIt 13 worked perfectly. Just updated to 18 and now the screen recording will not work. Dialog box pops up says 'SnagIt has stopped working' Windows then closes the program.

I tested and it did a similar thing to me. It gave the error......Webcam did not load or not recognized, something like that.Anyway, 2018 crashed.

I also have exe dll's mysteriously vanishing from my program files making it impossible to even launch 2018 at times. I've reinstalled it at least 7 or 8 times already.
Now I have a copy of the dll's in a folder on my desktop. I'm ready next time,I'll just put them back myself. I opened a ticket for the issue yesterday.

My Point? I can record the screen now, a reinstall corrected that. So you can either try reinstalling 2018 or run a repair install. To run a repair install, select "Change" from the control panel.

Regards,Joe

I too am having the same issue after upgrading to Snagit 2018. I've tried uninstalling SnagIt 13 and re-installing SnagIt 2018 but still SnagIT capture will not load. I can open up SnagIt 2018 Editor just fine. I've filed a support case and will report back what happens.

There's a support article for recording issues that might be helpful:

Otherwise, I'd recommend opening a ticket with Tech Support at https://support.techsmith.com. It will help us track the issue and get it resolved.

I confirm that the recording function is doing some weird stuff.
I try and do a video recording and get this error.

Here's the thing though,  It's still recording and I can just drag the error massage to the side
click the stop button and it opens in the editor. If I click cancel it just closes the error message and closes the recorder but no crash or anything.

Secondly,  The audio inputs are all screwed up.If I have my studio mic selected Snagit uses speaker sound.
If I have the webcam mic selected it uses my studio mic.  Speaker sound uses the webcam mic.
I didn't try my voicemeter option.

So its got bugs crawling around in it for sure

Disable/uncheck the 'Enable Webcam' feature (if Snagit 2018 has it; I'm still using v13).  I had the same issue in Snagit 13 until I made that change.

Post and let all know if it works.

I did disable webcam and 2018 keeps hanging on the processing. I do not have time for this. I am downgrading back to 2013. Very disappointed.

Unfortunately I have to tag along. Although I'll keep on using 2018 version, I'm a bit infuriated why the recording option crashes with error 18.

I conducted these troubleshooting steps:
- disabled the webcam option
- disabled the microphone
- did a repair in applications and features
- defined custom program destination for Video using VLC
- downloaded the 'disable HW' from Snagit support and added the registry key, restarted Snagit
- essentially - followed all these steps

at no point of the steps did the video recording succeed.

Running on Windows 10, Version 1709 - on a corporate imaged machine but personal Snagit license, version 2018.1.0 (64 BIT) build 775. There's no update to install.

I've managed to make it run - albeit investing more time than comfortable. Found a good hint from @andrew4375 in this post

- changed video driver settings in regards to 3D. The driver overrides the application settings >> it works....yipee!
