Updates, Force Restart, bunk project files, oh my!

After a few days away from Camtasia, I just opened it up and when prompted, went ahead and allowed the pending software update to happen. Went to 3.1.5 from several versions back, maybe 3.1.1 or so... after the update, when I opened one of my most recent projects, I just get the spinning beach ball for 10-15 minutes... Other project files open just fine including projects made before and after the problem project.

Have done multiple restarts. Tried making a duplicate file but duh, that one caused the app hangup as well.

I'm pretty chill about this because 1) I'm kinda at fault for not saving multiple project files as backups 2) I still have all my source assets and can rebuild... but mainly I'm super curious as to why this is happening.

Reinstalls happen at the global IT level in my org, so I'm hesitant to try that because I'll be without my Mac while they put it in the queue and perform the uninstall/reinstall.

Any insight - ideas - conjecture appreciated. Cheers!

I have a suggestion.  Don't know if it will work or not, but it's worth a try.  Open a new project or any one that you can open.  Got to View->Display->Waveforms and uncheck that option.  Now try to open the problem project.  If it opens fine and you need the waveforms showing for guidance while editing, you can go ahead and turn them back on. You'll just have to remember to turn them off again the next time you open that project.

I've only seen this once before on a particular project, and turning off the waveforms while opening allowed the project to pop right open.  Let us know if it works for you and I'll add that information to the bug report.  if we have multiple users and multiple projects running into this issue, then it is more likely to get looked at for a future release.

Leif - I don't know why that worked, but it worked. :/

Thank you so much for chiming in here with this random-never-would-have-thought-of fix!

Sweet!  Glad it worked for you.

You're fortunate that someone reported an bug that sounded very similar to yours to Tech Support and I had looked into it a bit. Otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue how to help you out. So don't hesitate to contact our Tech Support.  It can make a difference for these rare bugs that we haven't run into ourselves!

I'll make a note of it so we can try to get a fix into the next release.
