Upgrade to SnagIt v13 no longer loads my SNAG files properly - error with "glossy callouts"

Hello SnagIt,

I have hundreds of SNAG files for documentation graphics which use callouts. With v13 I now get the error "The file contains Glossy callouts which are not supported in this version of Snagit. The callouts will be changed to Shaded callouts.". The new rendering SnagIt is using is very ugly and will require tons of rework as I have hundreds of SNAG files using these callouts.

1) Why would SnagIt sell an Upgrade where they removed functionality and broke customers existing images?

2) Will this rendering be added back later so that I can buy another Upgrade?

3) If I Upgrade now from v13 to v12 will my license key work?

4) If I Upgrade now from v13 to v12 will newer SNAG files from v13 be loadable?

Thanks for your help.

our 13 license will work on earlier version. As to WHY they have been removing features and forcing a cumbersome interface, we may never know. The owners are now involved since the outcry has been SO bad and changes are starting to appear.

+1 here

Yeah, it's actually "Glassy" that's been removed. I miss that feature.

It looks pretty good compared to the flat appearance of the the newer callouts.

I'm not sure how well your older .snag files will work in versions like SnagIt 12.
But you can download and install the old style Callouts with the Glassy finish and use them in SnagIt 12.

You can't select Glassy from the Gradient menu. It's not a feature after version 10.

Here's Glassy in SnagIt 10

This is a great example  of destroying something that was really nice. I must wonder "Why?"
I hope they get back to the realization that Snagit is an auxiliary program whose main purpose is to speed up captures and marking them up

Why? It never ceases to amaze me either. Nice features get taken away far to often. All that programing tossed in the trash pile. For what?

It got me to thinking though. I went into SnagIt 10 and applied  "Glassy" to some callouts and saved them as Quick Styles. Callouts without glassy applied to them as part of the SnagIt 10 paint tools.

Quick Styles are saved to a common folder. So what I saved in SnagIt 10 carried over to SnagIt 11 and 12.

You can use the Fill Color Palette to change the color of these callouts in SnagIt 12 and they retain their glassy finish. You can save a handful of styles and have access to all callouts.
I changed my Green Notes quick style to Blue in SnagIt 12 in the example below.
