Upgrade from SnagIt 11 to SnagIt 12?

I have purchased an update to SnagIt 12.
However, the installer does not remove SnagIt 11 automatically.
After manually de-installing SnagIt 11, SnagIt 12 does not run (Windows Installer pops up, SnagIt crashes)
After manually re-installing SnagIt 12, everything is running again.

Hello Joris,

We don't automatically uninstall your previous major version of Snagit so that you can try the latest version to see how it compares to the previous version.

When you do uninstall the previous version it should not break the newer version.   Do you know what version of Snagit 11 you had, 11.4, 11.3, etc.. ?    Also what OS do you have, Win7 or Win8?

I would like to try this same scenario to see if I can reproduce the results that you are seeing.

Thanks,

Yesterday I installed SnagIt 12.0.0.1001.

Today I uninstalled 11.4.3.280.

Without notice the SnagIt 11 uninstall exited SnagIt 12 that was running and removed SnagIt 12 from Start All Programs.  I think, but don't recall for sure that I had SnagIt 12 on the desktop and it is gone as well.  I know how to put these back but am more concerned there may be other things broken.  This Windows 7, 64bit.

Probably Snagit 11.4.0 as the readme still exists:

C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit 11\Readme.txt

Snagit 11.4.0 - README.TXT

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Adam, We have a multi-user license at our company. Are we entitled to a free upgrade from v. 11.4..3 to v.12? I am unable to upgrade without actually paying $24.95 for an upgrade.

Thanks...Mohan

Hello Mohan,

If your company has a maintenance agreement with us currently then the upgrade would be free.  For a clear answer on this I would recommend contacting our sales department directly.

I am trying to upgrade from SnagIt 11 to SnagIt 12 on Windows 7; however, I keep  receiving a message that the download is blocked since I may have a version of SnagIt open, even though I don't.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Sounds like good intent in theory but in operation this process leaves much to be desired. For instance, I paid $25 for an upgrade from SnagIt 11 to 12. After installing version 12, I noticed the shortcuts in the Start Menu still there for 11. I deleted them. Another problem, and it's a bigger one, is that one of the SnagIt functions I use the most no longer works - right clicking on a .BMP file, and using the batch conversion explorer shell snapin. The wizard no longer launches with 12 installed and it doesn't launch an 11 wizard. I'm very unimpressed.
