Every time I try to upload to screencast, I get a message to say that the file cannot be found.
I have been using camtasia 7 and 8 successfully for months but I have never experienced this problem before.

I had problems with uploading the other day, turned out I was very close to my bandwidth limit. I did not get an absolute answer that it was the issue, however, if you go to Screencast...you might also get the warning
There was also a string on here about some trouble with uploading direct from CS 8, you could try to produce the video (not direct to Screencast) then upload it...

Uploading from CS8 is working better today, but I've still had a couple failures. When I uploaded directly to Screencast, not from CS8, that worked ok.

Just before I attempted to output directly to screencast.com for the first time with CS8 yesterday, an update processed on the spot and I figured it was because it was the first time it saw CS8 project coming from my PC. Then it failed twice (retry option and go to project are welcomed options! no dice before)

I can of course upload manually and did so. I've lived with periods of no screencast option service before, I hope this time the inconvenience is brief.

Just used Screencast.com upload in 7.1 for test and it works fine.

Tried CS8.0 again, which rendered OK then during upload it now says "Your Screencast.com plug-in software is outdated. Please update your software."

If this is up to me, where do I get it and how is it applied? Thanks

UPDATE: CS8 upload to Screencast.com works today.

NOTE: I had PC weirdness yesterday and had to use System Restore after other remedies failed. So then I had to install CS8 again today and in turn when I selected Screencast.com output it flashed "updating screencast component".

Whatever the reason for the problem I had (when I tried to upload a rendered file to screencast I got the message "Cannot find file"), it disappered 24 hours later and now everything is working fine.

Hello,

This is still an issue of today. When can we expect a fix to this issue?

It has actually worked okay for the past several weeks.

When it fails, you will likely see a "your screencast plugin is out of date" message. If I see this, I re-try it and it generally works.

I am glad it for you.

I have tried in under Windows 7 Pro and now Windows 8 Pro, and it fails after even after re-tries. SnagIT is much more stable in the upload.

Yes, that also works for me, and if Techsmith could implement it's effectiveness in CS,- then it would be all fine.

We're actually looking into this now. Can you post a screenshot of the error message?

We're trying to match the exact text of the error message. There are a few variations of similarly worded error messages, and we're trying to figure out which one is being hit. The error message we're looking at from 8.x reads like this:
"Your Screencast.com plug-in software is outdated. Please update your software"

Also, it would be helpful to know which version of Camtasia Studio you have. You can find out by checking Help > About Camtasia Studio.

Thanks for any additional information you can provide.

Looking forward to a solution. Here comes my notes:

Version nr:

Videotitle: (Could this be UTF-8 friendly?)

Error pop-up after failed upload to screencast.com:

Hope this helps?

Jens,

Thanks very much for the screenshots, and for your offer to help. The screencast.com team has an update queued that we hope will fix this issue. This update is planned to go live in the next day or two. We will update this thread when the fix is live on the site.

Here's an update on what we're doing to try to resolve this issue for customers...

At 7am on Tuesday 2/13/2013, the Screencast.com team published a change that we hoped would fix this issue. Given Scott H's reply, it looks like some people are still getting this error. We would appreciate it if others could confirm that this issue is still occurring, as we have not been able to reproduce the issue in house.

During our investigation, the Camtasia Studio team noticed that in the Screencast.com plugin in Camtasia Studio 7.1.x and 8.x, there were several error code returns from Screencast.com which all resulted in this same error message:
"Your Screencast.com plug-in software is outdated. Please update your software"

So the error message was something of a catch-all error, which is masking the real problem, and causing us to guess at solutions. We have changed this to give each unique error code returned from Screencast.com a unique error message. The CS team is now testing that change, and once we verify that it does not break existing functionality, we will push that change live. This will cause everyone running CS 7.1.x and CS 8.x to get a new Screencast.com plugin the next time they try to upload to Screencast.com. This new plugin will not fix the problem, but it should give us a unique error message. From this point, we should be able to diagnose and fix the root cause of the problem.

For those reporting this error, the details we are most interested in are:
- What is the exact error message text? Screenshots are always appreciated.
- When does the error message show up? Be as specific as possible.
- Does the error always occur, or only sometimes? Also, please let us know if you see any patterns that cause the issue to occur. For example, only with longer duration videos, only with videos of certain dimensions, only when I produce from a particular computer, etc. These details may help us to be able to reproduce the issue in house, which would greatly speed up the troubleshooting process.

Once again, my apologies to those who are affected by this issue. We are trying to get to the bottom of it, and we appreciate your help.

"Your Screencast.com plug-in software is outdated. Please update your software."

This showed after a 20 sec clip was partially uploaded. Today was the first time it occurred... the video was 800x600, produced on a PC running Windows 7. I'm running Camtasia 8.0.4.

Scott,

Thank you! That's very helpful. Previously, others had reported this error *after* the upload reached 100%, at which point we're doing something else entirely. Your screenshot clearly shows the error at 2% uploaded, which helps us narrow in on what might be causing the error.

FWIW - I can report that I have used the CS 8.04 Upload to Screencast.com function at least 25 times in the last 4 days and I've not see the "plug-in too old" error at all during this time.
