There's a whole secret society of people using Snagit for crop circles...but I can't post about that here. ;-)

Snagit does have the ability to create a circular selection, and you can then copy and paste into a new document. I'm not sure about fading the edges, though.

Kelly Mullins made a great tutorial that will get you started in the right direction. And she may have some ideas on using fade with circles.

Sounds like a fun project...maybe you can share some images when you're finished!

Hi Daniel, landed on this page via google. I'm using Snagit Version 2 for Mac and want to capture a circle. Kelly's tutorial listed above goes to a 404 page. Any ideas?

Hello John,
You can't select the circle outright during the capture. Thank you for mentioning you are on Mac.

I made a little video showing how you can use the selection tool in the editor to achieve the effect.

See if this will work--I know it's a lot more steps than just capturing the circle in the first place: http://screencast.com/t/NQhxnmajdS

Sincerely,

So Im using Snagit on Mac and I don't have the ability to select a circle when I click on the selector tool. What gives? Where'd the circle selector go?

Hi Clinton - my super helpful co-worker Mike Curtis made a quick video showing how this should work on Mac: http://www.screencast.com/t/fqABQ87L4fhW Are you not seeing the circle selection option in the spot it appears in this video?

The first rule about Snagit Crop Circles, is we don't talk about Snagit Crop Circles.

Thanks for the quick tutorial.

It works a little different on my PC.  I was having trouble moving my circle around before wanting to "cut" it (it automatically cut the circle out of the picture).

+1 Snagit Crop Circles!

I watched a video awhile back - could have been Kelly's tutorial. The trick to putting a border around an image cropped to a circle or oval was to create the circle separately (with the colour, width, shadow etc that you want) to the exact size of the cropped image and then line them up. Worked perfectly for me.
