v13 Snagit - frustrating

Just typed out issues I've had while trialing v13 snagit and it all disappeared when your system required me to log in. That in itself is frustrating :(
Now about v13 trial version I downloaded because I wanted to see it before upgrading my v10. In short, I don't like it. It is confusing, everything is hidden, and worst of all, when it is open, I cannot use the 'x' key because all that does is open the snagit window........

Hi Selena,

It sounds like your "x" key on your keyboard somehow got assigned as a hotkey for Snagit. This support article has information on how to alter your Snagit hotkeys. I would check these settings out and make sure that "x" isn't assigned to any of them.

We also have this tutorial article on customizing the Snagit 13 toolbar. That might help with your problem of hidden tools.

I'm not sure what happened with your original post, I saw it in our system and I saw that had also been deleted.

If you still can't figure out what's going on with the "x" I'd recommend opening a support ticket at https://support.techsmith.com; they should be able to help straighten that out if it's not what I suggested.

Hi Glenn, thanks for responding with suggested fixes.

I checked the hotkey thingo and although it had everything unchecked, the first option also had the 'x' in the field so am guessing it shouldn't be there even though nothing is checked. Have now put 'none' in that field and all the other fields and I can now use the x key :).

The customizing of toolbar - need to spend a bit more time reading up and playing with it as it works so different from my v10. Tks for the link to that tutorial.

And as for the awol message, it appeared a little while after I retyped and posted my '2nd' message, so I delete the first one to avoid doubling up.

Thanks again. Now if only you can help me with my missing bookmarks that google cloud seems to have lost.... :)

@sf - I know, I know, it doesn't help much anymore, but I've learned the hard way on various sites..: whilst composing a long post and whilst it looks.. like you are being logged in, you are silently logged out in the background, because you exceeded a specific time or so.

Then when hitting the 'post'-button and you notice that you need to log in again and no-way you get your post back.

Sometimes the <-back button on the browser may help, the text is in cache or so, but usually it is gone, simple as that. Ctrl-A, ctrl-c and have it stored in your clipboard manager, before hitting the post button. When it is  a really  long post and I need to check on various sites whilst writing, I usually do a ctrl-a/ctrl-c in between and not just at the end.

Anyway, just a tip for the future.

Hi Mike62
I know right!! :)  Lesson learnt this time. Usually I use notepad to draft out longish messages and then post it online. But I didn't that time and it had to be that one time something goes awol lol. Thanks for taking time to respond :)

I think we've all had this happen before and it is frustrating. There's a Chrome extension I've found called Lazarus that's supposed to help prevent web form data from being lost. I've never tried it myself, but it might be worth looking into:

Disclaimer: Not an endorsement :)

That definitely is a nice add-on, it takes away the possible worries of losing text. I feel browsers should have such a thing as a built in option... Nowadays, you have a clean browsers and need half a dozen add-ons to make it work like you want to... :-)

I,  myself,  am using Firefox and obviously I checked out whether this add on would be available for Firefox as well.
It is indeed. Whilst going down the comments though, I think users have at least 'mixed feelings' about the add on as it looks like the development has stopped and users are requested to donate. This is for Firefox, I did not check Chrome.
