Version 13 - Hotkeys bring up "Capture Window" not my good old cross hairs - another UI fumble?

Upgraded to Version 13 - and once again am met with changes to the product that are annoying.  Under Version 12 when I pressed my capture hotkeys - I got just that - my cross hairs for selecting a region (how I operate).

Now however, I get this annoying "Capture Window" which I must then click on the huge round red Capture icon to actually get to doing my task.

I opened a support ticket with TechSmith and apparently this is by design.  My support tech said he would pass off the suggestion to the developers.

If someone knows a way to go from capture hotkeys directly to doing just that - capturing - please let me know.

If this truly is "by design" - well this is an unwanted and zero value add addition to the product.

I don't understand.  I am using 13 and when I press the default hotkey PrtScn I get the cross hairs to select a region.  I didn't do anything special to achieve this.

Your response twigged me to do yet another Google Search.....  Here was the problem.  In previous versions I changed the Global Capture default from PrtScn (I have a Mac keyboard - no PrtScn) to CTRL-ALT-P - they have totally buried this in an intuitive location... see below:

Can I change the global hotkeys?

Yes. To change SnagIt’s global hotkeys....

Snagit 13

  1. Open the main Snagit capture window
  2. Click under the red button
  3. Type the hotkey you wish to use for your Global Capture Hotkey
If you look at the Capture Window you will see this innocuous box.  TechSmith - PUT these Preferences in one place please - within Preferences.  Gawd what a waste of my time.

PaulBarrett1952 - thanks for the response - it finally got me the answer I was looking for.  Serenity now.

Well I'm glad that my lack of understanding solved the problem.  That's a first! :)
