As a manager to software instructional designers / trainers, I decided to get my hands dirty again so I could truly appreciate what my direct reports go through. To that end, I decided to record a departmental product overview and then edit it to post on a share drive. Mistake? I started this effort Wednesday afternoon and come early Saturday morning (2am to be exact) I am beside myself! I consider my project on the least complex of the spectrum, a 76 minute MP4 that I merely want to edit out "Uhms", and "Ahs" to come up with a video that is very succinct. But the crashes I've experienced in the last 2 days have been tremendous! I mean, I starting hitting "ctrl+s" after EVERY edit (i.e., cut, drag) but the software crashed every few minutes. I stuck it out because, aside from being obstinate in nature, I wanted a true sense of what my direct reports go through. This software literally crashed every few minutes! I shut down every app I was using, excepting Skype for Business as I had to have my employees get to me somehow, but there was NOTHING ELSE running on my computer! Still Captivate 8.6 crashed every 180 seconds without fail. I am now considering finding another video editing software for my team. Has anyone else experienced such frustration? I am using Windows 7 with 294GB of free space.
