video cameras that work with Camtasia, MAC and Green Screen

Hi, I am looking for a good video camera that works well with a MAC, Camtasia on MAC and a green screen. When I first started to work with a green screen I had trouble erasing the green color. I was using the camera in my Macbook Pro. I then tried capturing video using my iPhone. The iPhone video worked great and with both videos side by side, the color registration from the iPhone video was MUCH better. And, the erase color function worked great.

So what I learned is that the range of color that a camera can capture makes a big difference when using a green screen.

I do not want to use my iPhone for these videos.

Can anyone recommend an external video camera that is easy to use, install and will capture video while recording the video into Camtasia while it is recording - ie it becomes a video input option?

Hi Dave,

Right now it's not possible to get the same quality while recording from Camtasia Mac.

I've read many posts from users here who've said that Camtasia Mac does not give enough control over webcam recording - So for example, you might buy a 1080p webcam but find the actual resolution Camtasia records is lower, with no way to tell Camtasia to record the camera at 1080p

If you just want a different camera angle, and or better optics, but aren't concerned with resolution or bitrate, then the Logitech C930 is a good choice.

Also, be sure to allow enough room between the green screen and yourself - 6 feet or more is idea. (you don't want green light bouncing off the screen and changing your skin tone to something that make you look sickly)

Lastly, you mentioned not wanting to use your phone, and from that I assume you don't want to use any external camera, but if that assumption is wrong and you're open to an external camera, there are lots of good options from gopros, to camcorders to SLR's in video mode, just be sure to clap your hands on video so you an easily align the audio with the video.

Thank you Jack, I am open to an external camera but want one that will record the video directly into Camtasia. I will look into the Logitech options. They have cameras that plug into the USB ports.

Thank you for the additional tips as well. I will let you know how it goes and the results I experience.

Sincerely,
Dave
