Video clips on render and preview turning permanently grey at random

On the left is the rendered video (preview in-app looks the same) and on the right is the source material. I'm editing several clips together and occasionally when I click on/off the video footage in the editor it has a random chance to turn any of my clips permanently gray/foggy. Only fix that I can find is not saving, rebooting and hope the gray didn't make it into the save like it's some sort of virus. This is problematic as I have multiple clips from several source videos and me going back and forth from clip to clip to edit their placements is how I and a lot of others edit compilations.

I used to use an old version of Camtasia for mac, I decided to buy an upgraded license for my Windows PC a few days ago and it's become somehow even more unusable than Camtasia 2. Looking at old threads seems to do me no good either so rather than necro old threads I decided to make a separate one. Any modern solutions in 2019 to this problem?

If you have an Nvidia card? If so then hardware acceleration is broken, support suggests software only mode. I am using the Microsoft basic render driver. Sadly I am looking for a camtasia replacement as the issue is months old. One doesn’t buy a ti-card then get throttled by software that can’t use it.

So I decided to make a return to camtasia, I neglected to mention that the software-only mode runs super slow, which makes it really hard to edit footage if I'm watching the equivalent of a microsoft powerpoint slideshow.

So my options are not being able to edit at all because of the lag or not being able to edit at all because it turns my footage gray...

I'm not sure what version of Camtasia you're using?

There was a maintenance release that corrected it for.................

26 June, 2019: Camtasia (Windows) 2019.0.3

Unfortunately, they didn't create a patch for 2018 users.

However,

Here's an excerpt from my discussions with them.

I hear you about the Camtasia 2018 users. However, if they reach out to us, we'd be happy to work with them in getting Camtasia 2019. All they would have to do is create a support ticket and prove they are running into this issue on Camtasia 2018. If you did wish to post something, I'd suggest just saying this has been fixed in Camtasia 2019 and if you reach out to support directly, they'd be happy to help you.

I assume this means you'll get 2019 for free.If this is what you require and that's what they do for you. Please report what occurred if you contact them.

Regards,Joe

I just reinstalled it today, its the 2019 version as I specified in the original post that I had just bought it. If you insist its fixed then I'll give the hardware encoding a second shot.

I also figured out that moving everything under one directory (Camtasia being installed under the same drive I keep recordings) reduces lag tremendously for software encoding, writing this bit for anyone googling this thread.
