I am having trouble with the new video capture feature in Snagit 11. (Using Windows 7 Enterprise, 64bit Version) When including the task bar in the capture the resulting video shows colour distortions ghosting. See a brief capture of this web page, including the task bar here...

... now another from the same web page, not showing the task bar here...

What gives?

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

Thanks for your feedback. I was able to reproduce this by selecting a region including the taskbar then swiping my mouse through the bottom most part of the screen where Snagit is recording. If I did not move my mouse like this I never saw the problem re-occur. I have made the developers aware of this issue and we are going to look into it.

Thanks again for the feedback and for using Snagit!

Phil,

Snagit has some compatibility issues with a 3rd party utility called "Lenovo Auto Scroll Utility" installed on some computers, especially IBM ThinkPad laptops. Do you have this program installed on your computer?

You can remove "Lenovo Auto Scroll Utility" by going to the Add/Remove programs Control Panel. We were able to fix the color distortion issue here by uninstalling this utility.

Let me know if this fixes the issue for you.

Tim,

I have an item called "Lenovo System Interface Driver" in my list of installed programs which the URL you quoted mentions as one of the 'sub-packages' of the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7. But the "Lenovo Auto Scroll Utility" is not listed however; or any other Lenovo program for that matter.

I am reluctant to remove the interface driver as it seems to incorporate aspects of my laptops operation in changing display settings for projector use etc.

Hmm, maybe it's packaged differently. You might check to see if there is anything installed under:
C:\Program Files\Lenovo\VIRTSCRL

You can try starting Task Manager as Administrator and looking for "virtscrl.exe" to end the process if it's there. There may also be a Service listed under the Services tab in Task Manager (lvvsst.exe) that starts virtscrl every time Windows starts. If it's there, you could go into "Services" Control Panel and change the Startup type to "Disabled".

I am currently trying out snagit and am experiencing the same issue. I am in a Windows 7 64-bit environment as well but have no Lenovo drivers on my machine. Is there another solution to this issue?

Thanks

Ben

Ben,

I've simply avoided including the taskbar in my captures and/or used a different computer than a Lenovo laptop when doing captures that require the inclusion of the bottom of the screen.

This is a minor glitch overall and if you are just trying out Snagit I'd suggest you stick with it. It is all around an excellent application in my experience.

I advised a co-worker sending me clips in Snagit 11 that the overall video quality and font fidelity was poor.

The solution was to change color depth from 32 bit or automatic DOWN to 16 bit and then the clips shot looked fine. Then change it back when done.
