Hi Jens, I have done this successfully by renaming the file to have a ".mp4" extension instead of ".3gp." After you rename the file, Camtasia Studio should be able to accept it.

I'm sorry to hear that renaming the file didn't work for you. I'm guessing that it works with some versions of Android, but not others. It might be better to convert your media to a MP4 using a different software program.

Hello! You do know that thousands of people are creating video with their mobile devises, it would be nice to have support for this file type. I was hoping 8.1 would include it. If it's so "easy" why can't support be added?

Change the extension to .MOV.

Doing so allowed CS8 to load and play with sound.  While it may not work for everyone it may work.  MovieMaker and Media Player still allowed it to low but still couldn't play the sound.   I have found other formats work when the extension is changed to .MP4.

PS.  Ok, this is strange.
Videos from my Android get a .3gp suffix.  Changing the suffix to .MOV allows editing video and sound in CS8.

My daughter's iSomething creates files with a .MOV suffix.  Changing the suffix to .MP4 allows editing video and sound in CS8.

I think the latter requires a CODEC that is installed when Apple QuickTime is installed.

Perhaps Congress should pass a law or the President another executive order making *ALL* videos use a suffix of ???.   Ok, I will now leave quietly.  :D
