Have you seen this extension? It does actually allow video recording inside a Chrome browser. I admit it is not amazing, and I don't know any of the technology behind it, nor does it currently include audio, but maybe TechSmith could look at what this developer does to help integrate that kind of thing into Snagit for Chrome??

Hi Jonathan,
We have seen Skiblz, but as you mentioned, there are some serious limitations to what the app can currently do. I know we mentioned this in the hangout yesterday but I'll reiterate here for anyone else with the same idea: we're currently waiting on some technical limitations by Google on capturing the screen. Once those limits are lifted, we'll be working very hard to bring the best screen recording experience we can to the platform.

Hey Jonathon,

Yep, we've seen Skiblz and were similarly intrigued.  I love that they got it working without browser plugins.

We actually tried the method that extension uses for capturing and didn't like the performance on Chromebooks, so we considered it a non-starter for our screencasting functionality.  It can get decent results on more powerful devices (desktops/laptops), but our main focus with video capture was bringing it to Chromebooks.

That being said, we are actively exploring methods of generating video that aren't so dependent on achieving a decent capture frame rate.  We've got some good ideas, but no solid implementations yet.  We will definitely keep you up to date as we make progress.
