Videoclip sound quality decreasing after putting it in Camtasia

Okay so I haven't had this problem within 3 years which is how long I'm using Camtasia now. I'm using Camtasia 8 but I'm planning to get the update soon. Okay so here's my problem: I usually record Let's Plays with Fraps and paste the files in Camtasia afterwards to edit them. The sound has always been fine. By fine I mean the audio of the Let's Play and my voice didn't have a static sound. It sounds muffled now. But here's the thing: The audio sounds perfect BEFORE pasting the file into Camtasia. So the videoclip itself is perfectly fine but as soon as I put it in Camtasia the sound is completely different and sounds kinda static-like and odd. especially at 's' sounds or other loud noises. It happened after I switched from a notebook to a PC so maybe that's what caused it? I really don't know what to do anymore. Hope someone has a solution:) Btw sorry about any mistakes since english isn't my first language.

While this isn't always present, I use version 8.6 and I've found that anything recorded at 48k instead of 44.1k sounds overmodulated; the high frequencies are amplified, there is some distortion, low frequencies are muddier -- the result is a nasty, almost "crunchy" sound with a slightly muffled bass. This distortion is most noticeable wherever the audio is loudest -- and if there is any overmodulation in that 48k source, the sound becomes extremely annoying. So ... If you're using 48k recordings, try down-converting the audio to 44.1k and see if it helps. While you're doing it, you can also reduce the overall level by 1-2dB and/or apply leveling (to reduce extreme changes in volume). Audacity will do all of this -- and it's a free program. When you're done, export the audio from Audacity as a WAV file (to avoid re-encoding) and then import into Camtasia.
So simple! No headaches!
FWIW, Camtasia 9 (or 2018) is supposed to be kinder to 48k audio; however, neither of the two newer versions exports MP3 audio (which I need to be able to do on some projects).
