Viewing webcam input while recording

For the Camtasia developers - it would be very helpful for users to be able to see the webcam input while delivering their presentations. It's useful to be able to see the preview when setting up the presentation, but becomes a bit disconcerting to then deliver the lecture without any visual feedback.

There are certainly users who might prefer not to see their "floating heads" on screen, and it would be nice to be able to turn the feature on and off.

Thanks!

The challenge with showing the webcam while you are doing a recording is that the webcam would be burned into your screen recording.  It would not be separate track that you could manipulate independently of the screen recording.  Would you still find a webcam preview useful in that case?

zoom.us does it well. They have a preview window. You can maximize or resize and place anywhere you like. You can even minimize. Camtasia and Techsmith relay should have it that way if they want to keep competitive.

Plus, you can record a specific section of your screen to capture slides while recording video - the video preview is so nice to have.

Essential feature for a premium recording software. Surprising that it has been missed for so long/ nothing has been done till now.  Please implement this as TOP priority.

It's disconcerting that Camtasia doesn't have this feature yet. As Raviorora said, "please implement this as TOP priority". I record myself in guitar classes and I am missing this feature very much. Often I find myself having to record the video again because part of the guitar was outside of the camera view and I couldn't have a clue about it.

This is the one feature I need in a screen recording app. I don't need all the annotation stuff and already have editing software. It is MUST to be able to see the webcam feed during recording. As Ahmad says, Zoom does this perfectly and it lets me go full screen with the webcam, too. Snagit has better webcam options.

Sorry, but no sale here. I'll carry on running a 1-person webinar with Zoom and recording it locally. For free.

Here's another vote for it.  I would love to have the option.  And Yes, like in zoom it could be possible to resize the preview window and various points in the recording.  It would be just a matter of editiong to cut out the parts where you pause to resize!

Our workshop participants  - lecturers working the first time with Camtasia -  ask for this feature as well. Please develop it.

So here I am looking on the web for how to have a web thumbnail video of myself speaking during a Camtasia presentation-and I find out that Camtasia still doesn't do this? I am planning to flip a Music Appreciation class and would like to present videos for my students much like Tom Richey's videos on AP US History. Camtasia still does not have the picture within a picture feature as does Zoom? No sale.

Camtasia does picture in picture just fine. What it doesn't do is present the picture of the webcam during the process of the recording. You only see it during the editing process as well as the final output.

Right.  And that makes recording a video quite difficult.  I recorded a 10 minute video of myself the other day and it wasn't until I was done that I realized that the gizmo I was holding was just out of the shot for most of the video.

And that's why I record myself with Zoom Meetings, which completely Suboptimal and not all the reason I bought Camtasia. It's almost 2020... This request has been floating a long time and should not be viewed as a request but a necessity.

Seconding these opinions.  As said above, "shooting in the dark is hard."
