Load up Camtasia Recorder 2018, record your screen, press F10. Wait till it loads up Camtasia 2018. Notice there's a recording called capture.trec in your Media Bin. try and rename it... you can't, go to file location, rename it... you can't. Now quit Camtasia 2018 you can save the project but that won't stop this capture.trec getting overwritten. Go back into the file location you can now rename it, call it anything but capture.trec because when you start recording again with Camtasia Recorder will overwrite it when you press F10 and it automatically loads Camtasia 2018.

Why doesn't it auto check there's a default capture.trec in the Media Bin like it does when you record multiple times within Camtasia 2018?

Yes you can add everything to the library and rename them, but this is an accident waiting to happen, how did this get past testing?

how do you have Recorder's file options configured?

try this ...

in Recorder's tools/options/general tab/file options, select "automatic file name"; make sure you use a logical prefix; I use "CS2018-20{YY}-{MM}-{DD}"; this gives me a Julian date stamp in the file name

then, unselect "automatic file name" and select "ask for file name"; this will cause Recorder to suggest the name [with prefix], but you can just enter any name you want

if you elect to use the automatic name, Recorder will give you a first name that has no suffix, but all subsequent captures will have a suffix like -001, 002, 003 etc

note: if you have Recorder set to use "fixed file name", then it will overwrite
