Welding object and shapes to form new ones

By welding objects and shapes together the resulting union gives a new shape, this is ideal to create custom shapes.
Would anyone vote yes for this or do you think it would not be practical or useful.

Of course, you can always do this in Corel or illustrator, but do you have the software? :)
In CorelDraw this is done by selecting both items and selecting weld on a contextual meny after clicking on the selection.

Thanks for reading.

Nick

In SnagIt, the technique is called grouping.

You select multiple objects by holding the Shift key and selecting them one by one.

Then right click and select "Group".

You can Right Click and select "Select All Objects"  But in many cases, that's more than you want to select.

Nick ... I don't know how I would use that in Snagit. As Joe pointed out yo can group objects and flatten them to get the shape you want.  You CAN do a hell of a lot more in Illustrator if you need it

Thank you very much.
It goes deeper than I thought. It's just a different approach altogether and another way of doing the same things in different apps.
