Hi, I have used Snagit for years and I had huge archive for important screenshots. After installing new version 10, I am not able to find the screenshots. Did they really vanish?

The Datastore is where SnagIt archives and manages it's images.

The default location for that folder is C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore\

You can change the location of that folder in later versions of SnagIt. So obviously, if you had done that. It couldn't be found there.

You might need to relocate that file. Go into Preferences and re-associate the SnagIt  Datastore location to that folder.

If you uninstalled your previous version of SnagIt before installing the new one, you may have deleted the Datastore unintentionally? I don't know if SnagIt will delete the Datastore as part of a complete uninstall or not? It probably shouldn't under any circumstance.

Maybe TechSmith could answer this one ???

Irregardless, you can check the Recycle Bin and see if the Datastore is there. Restore it is.

If that doesn't help and no one else post a solution for you.

Joe is this the time to mention that no one should be saving into the datastore folder? That is for unsaved stuff (and some default snagit items) The default place to save which need not be used is DOCUMENTS / SNAGIT which is hopefully in your backup path.

This is the PERFECT time to mention the function of the Datastore.

If you "Remove unsaved captures".........Which will happen if you select "Delete Files"

Then it will obviously be deleted. Thanks for straightening me out. {:> )

Well I KNOW you know how it works but there have been a lot of people that have had misunderstandings about what that is some even purposely saving to the datastore folder

Yes,  And Always save to a different folder not under the Snagit\DataStore folder.
You could just copy everything in the DataStore folder to a different folder on your system or backup drive or DVD, with a different name than just DataStore like DataStore( 12-11-2017) or such.

Well the datastore is where unsaved docs live until you save them. It of course survives reboots. No need to copy what is in there as it is your snags with system file names that make sense only to snagit.
There has just been so much confusion about that folder, sharing it, putting it on network drives etc.
