I'm considering upgrading and was looking at the feature comparison table found here:
https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-compare-versions.html
And it mentions a new "Magnify Tool", but I have no idea what that is or what it does.
Anyone have any idea???

Since you mentioned poor eyesight, I wanted to make sure you were aware of a built in feature on your mac that lets you easily magnify the whole screen:
As shown above, this is in System Preferences for your mac, then under Accessibility, and then under Zoom - you can see I have mine set to Zoom when I scroll my mouse while also holding down the control key.

they seem to only assist with viewing stuff in "high contrast". which doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me, lol

There is a free tool written by a guy that now works for microsoft called "zoomIt". The tool was originally written for zooming during a presentation, but would likely help those with less than ideal vision. I've used this tool and personally think it's easier than the Windows "Ease of access" options
You can download the free zoomit tool directly from Microsoft here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/zoomit.aspx
