What's rightmost panel in the editor's default layout?!

I've a brand new install of SnagIt 2020. Wow! The editor looks like it used to 3 or 4 years back. I've been operating with a messed up user interface for years - assuming that's what the brains at TechSmith had intended us all use. Ooops.

2 questions:

1) How to reset the user interface to its virginal state?

2) I was viewing an image in the editor and tried to close the current by clicking the X at the upper right corner of the left most panel - since there was none at the upper right of the image pane.
So the image remained but the panel (See screenshot) disappeared, and I don't even know what valuable panel it was!  How do I get that panel back? (If someone answers Q1 above, I can just do that...)

That's certainly not the normal behaviour of SnagIt 2020. I've never encountered a post with that error before.

Perhaps try uninstalling the program & reinstalling with a New Download of the Program.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

If that doesn't work, you may need tech support to straighten it out.

Apparently, you were submitting a reply while I was composing mine. Yours did not show up until I clicked 'Submit.'

SnagIt did nothing wrong, ASFAIK. It was all me I'm sure: I tried some settings that 'stuck' and just didn't know how to get back to the 'nice' original panel layout and toolbars. It may be some weird bug having upgraded SnagIt from some super old version over the years, but more likely was just 'clever; me.  Thanks!

Click on 'Selection' under title bar. It looks as though you have 'Call outs' selected. To the best of my knowledge, there are no other sidebars to the right of the 'Properties' panel currently displayed in your image. You could also do a 'Repair install' from the Apps Settings of Windows and that should restore everything to it's default state. Just remember to select 'Keep my files' if you do this.

I'm looking at the minimized UI with a big white outside of the editor UI.

Perhaps he created that image as a screenshot?

I was assuming what he posted was exactly what  hes now seeing? And that image was taken with a camera.

Thanks guys!  The editor disappears when I try to get a screenshot of it, so it was easiest to just snap a picture, you're right Joe!

This was the 1st time running the editor and (for once) this was a clean install. I definitely clicked the X on another panel to the right whereupon it disappeared. I was focused on my other image at the time, so just noticed a disappearing panel, not what it was. It was to the right of Quick Styles. Its NOT A BIG DEAL, but I was curious.

I may try a reinstall or just move on.

I'm doing a uninstall/reinstall to see if the panel comes back. A reset display functionality might be nice!

For what it's worth, the editor disappears when you capture because of a setting in the capture part of SnagIt.

From the capture bit, click File  > Capture Preferences... > Capture tab and clear the option labeled "Hide Snagit when capturing.

After thinking about it I am going to assume that the 'X' referred to was on the left-most image in the 'Recent' tray. You can right-click on an image in the 'Recent' tray and select 'Close' from the pop-up. That should return you to the 'Library' as long as no other images are in the 'Recent' tray. Otherwise, I'm at a loss to explain the behavior.

After a reinstall I don't see what I closed. I'll report back if I ever figure it out.  Appreciated your help!

I think I got John
It may have been the Grab Text floating window.
When grab text is triggered, it opens in a separate and re-sizable window. It has a white background. If there were little text to grab. It might look like a blank window.
I'm not sure what the default size for the window is. Or its position for that matter.
I've re-sized mine and it opens as it was the last time.

That makes sense.
