I just installed snag it 11. I don't have nearly as many choices of arrows as I had before. Where did they go and how do I get them back? (in editor/draw)

How do I get more arrow styles in SnagIt 11? Previous versions seemed to have more selection.

Hi,
It's true that on the surface, Snagit 11 has less arrows than prior versions. However, that's not really the whole story. We may have less pre-made arrows, but we have more variation and base types.

In Snagit 11 we have a lot more variety in the initial set of arrows. If you go back and look at prior versions, you're going to notice that there is just a handful of flavors (base types) with different colors.

Here's what I recommend: Pick an arrow and play with it--end points, shadow effect, colors, etc. The key is when you get something you like, add it to your Quick Styles. It'll add your custom arrows to the box so next time instead of 12 you'll have 13, 14, etc. This is the way to build up a diverse collection of arrows. (And save a lot of work having to recreate them later!)

I don't have access to Snagit 11 at the moment or I'd whip you up a quick video. I had to use words (booo) but my offer for a future video and screenshots still stands!

Let me know if that makes sense and seems like a good solution. You can search the help for Quick Styles or Arrows if needed.

Sorry for all the words... and thanks for the post!

I agree with you concerning the variety of the initial set of arrows. In fact, I discovered with Snagit 11 lot of kind of arrows I was not aware that they existed in version 10. Good job!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I gave this a whirl, and it's perfect. I can create the exact arrows I commonly use and save them in the Quick Styles. This works for me!!

Thanks again,

Dan

Hi Mike,

I'm glad to hear that Snagit 11 has more options, but in terms of ease-of-use, it was much simpler to have a lot more presets such as with Snagit 9 or 10. Are there plans to add more presets?

Hi Osolo,
There's some great discussion on this thread and I can see your point. I'm not sure what we'll do, but this is great feedback for the team to chew on. I hadn't really thought of it this way before.

Thanks for posting!

Mike,

Thank you for your consideration! I'm sure that when you use office you mostly stick to the preset galleries when creating tables etc. That's how I feel with these options: I'd rather have a big list of things to choose from - the presets your graphics designers will come up with will be way nicer looking than what I can come up with and surely it's just easier to click than think :)

I have a follow up on this subject. I was one of the original people looking for my arrows. Found out how to make my own, which was great. However, I have created my own three times now and they keep going away.

When I first create them, they show up and I have a whole row of new ones.

Then when I go back later and want to use them, it is like they never existed.

I'm obviously missing a step somewhere Sure will appreicate some guidance.

I just upgraded from SnagIt 10 to 11 and was very disappointed to see that there are a lot less styles in 11 than in 10. Why?

Good news!
One of our developers, Chris G, has been aware of this thread and the other night he sent out a link to something he'd been tinkering with. He's created an .exe file that will install all the old objects--arrows, callouts, lines, etc. After installing, it defaults to the "old" row in the interface like it would look in versions 9 and 10.

Download it from here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/ans...

(It's a little hard to see the link, so here's a screenshot just in case: http://www.screencast.com/t/tsGyJQYpdv )

Hooray Chris!

MAC ONLY!

If you're on a Mac... TechSmith Tech Support helped me fix the issue with my Snagit Mac v2.1.7. Here's the fix:

1.) Close Snagit and confirm its not running by accessing Activity Monitor. Look for Snagit in the running list of applications.

2.) Click on your Finder and then click the Go menu at the top. Hold down the Option key on your keyboard and choose the Library item in the Go dropdown.
Then go to Preferences folder.

3.) Locate all com.techsmith.snagit.plist files and move them over to your desktop (or any other location other than the current folder).

4.) Confirm that com.techsmith.snagit.plist is no longer in the Preferences folder.

5.) Launch snagit. Removing the plist file should allow Snagit to generate a new plist file and solve the problem.

It worked for me!!

When I upgraded to v 11 my styles toolbar changed. There used to be a lot more available there but now they're gone and it's very annoying. How do I get them back? No wait, I just figured out how to add one. However, I can't seem to remove any of the default quick styles - callouts - (which I don't like) or modify them. How (or can) I do that? I'd like to make that toolbar (quick styles) longer as well, can I?

How is it possible? - removing what I got with an upgrade.

I`m not an graphics designer, and dont want to mess about with a lot of options.

I just want to clip my image put a mouse icon, callout and perhaps a red-circle, and ship the image to the customer. I do not want to study Snagit`s many possibilities, just use it!

I have to study Visual Studio,Help and Manual ,Windev, Webdev, C#, - Click down Adobe update - Read manuals, learn 3rdparty components - please do not make my day harder.

We have multiple (approximately 60) Snag it users and have gotten only fantastic feedback. I currently have version 10. I have recently purchased version 11 for two employees. I am the department trainer, so they have asked me to give them some pointers. In V-10 I liked that there were multiple pointers, call outs, etc to choose from. Is there a way to locate those from V-10 in V-11? Thank you.
