Where are the video setup and frame rate settings in Snagit 11?

Perhaps I am missing something.

When I purchased Snagit 11, I thought I was getting an upgraded version of Snagit 10.

Instead, I got a neutered version with fewer options, less flexibility, and less usability.

Where are the Video Setup / Frame Rate options? I have gone through tutorials here at TechSmith and searched on the web and in the forums.... I cannot seem to find a way to modify these settings.

I am extremely disappointed in Snagit 11. I quite honestly feel like someone has stolen $50 from me.

Seriously, am I missing something? I just want the ability to select a codec and its settings and set the frame rate.

Without these items, I can no longer use nor recommend Snagit as a low-cost high quality solution for video screen capture. It simply does not fit that description any longer.

Thank you Mike... I appreciate your rapid response.

Perhaps other users appreciate the perceived benefit of encoding on the fly... I personally prefer the benefit of quality recording at the frame rate and Mbps rate I want and I am willing to wait for it.

15 frames per second may be usable to some people, but I purchased Snagit 11 to incorporate captured video into video commercial demonstrations of software (i.e., an actual commercial).

When incorporating Snagit 11 MP4 captures into 29.97 fps After Effects compositions with effects, 3D layers, etc., the poor frame rate and low quality is immediately apparent, particularly when compositing with high-quality PNG screen shots and HD MP4 video.

I prefer the size-quality of MP4s for editing, but if the MP4s do not have the quality I require, the size is irrelevant.

AVI is often my preferred format only out of necessity due to quality considerations. However, I use MP4 when I have the opportunity and the composition allows.

Unless TechSmith incorporates the ability to modify the frame rate and MP4 compression values, then Snagit simply isn't usable for high-quality compositions.

Is there any chance at all that TechSmith would take their more more savvy customers into consideration and implement these capabilities in the near future?

Hi all- I’m excited to let you know that you can now have the option to choose from Low, Medium, or High video capture settings in the new Snagit 13. The default is Medium, which targets 15 fps. When you set this preference to High, Snagit will target 30 fps.

Of course, since Snagit generates a ready-to-share MP4 video in real-time (quite a resource-intensive activity!) the actual framerate of your video will vary. Key factors that impact framerate include: your computer hardware, how much system resource is consumed by your other apps and services, capture dimensions, and amount of motion in your content.

Other video-related updates in Snagit 13 include support for webcam video capture, full-screen capture on displays larger than 1080p, and animated GIF creation from videos. Do let us know what other video features you’d like to see in Snagit.

Next steps:
  • Read more about what’s new in this version.
  • Try out the new version of Snagit for 15 days – download it here.
  • If you own a license to any earlier version of Snagit on Windows or Mac, you can upgrade to the latest and greatest for only $24.95 USD – see upgrade details here.

Wow.  Four years later, and finally some movement in the right direction.  For me and my company, it's too little, too late.  We have moved on, and are happy with our current solution.

That's great news, especially as the latest Audials makes it seemingly impossible to manually set the recording area - it's not always a video, e.g. showing people how to use Windows, and sometime we want to crop a video while we record.
When this issue is fixed I will upgrade to the latest Snagit & goodbye Audials Tunebite forever :-)
Love & respect,
Psy <3
