Where do I find the screen coordinates in a Snagit Region capture?

I just upgraded to Snagit version 10, and when I do a region capture there is no indication of the current screen coordinates. The magnifier shows the region size after I drag out the region, but my current x,y position is not shown.

The older version did display the x,y coordinates, and I find it hard to believe this crucial and useful piece of information would be removed from the new version.

Please tell me I'm missing something here...

Hello JRock. You should see them in the Magnifier when you are dragging out the area you want to capture. It also had the crosshairs. Let us know if this helps and thanks for posting. Have agreat day.

Correction: I'm using Snagit 11

The Magnifier does not show the current x,y coordinates (moving the cross-hairs around does not change these values). The values that show initially are the dimensions of my Desktop screen minus the taskbar (1280x994).

Once I click and drag a region, the values change to indicate the size of the selected region.

Hey JRock,

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to understand why you would prefer to have x,y coordinates as opposed to capture size. What would you be using these coordinates for? Do you want both capture size dimensions and x,y coordinates? Any other feedback is more than welcome too.

Thanks for using Snagit!

The magnifier only shows a very small zoomed-in area. So when selecting a starting point it's hard to guess exactly where/what you'll be cutting off further down the x or y plane once you start expanding your capture.

Yes, there is a large horizontal/vertical cross-hair showing on the screen, but you can't be very accurate with it. So with the x/y coordinates showing at all times, I can use the magnifier to check different parts of the image I want to capture, and start/end my selection exactly where I need it.

I'm not sure if I've explained this right - but I have seen other people post with the same complaint.

I have no problem with the capture size showing ... this could be useful. I just don't understand why the x,y coordinates would be removed with the new versions. I now have the latest and greatest version, which is less accurate - not more.

Thanks

I agree that this functionality should be restored to version 10. I do a lot of partial screen captures and used this feature in version 9 to determine the x or y coordinate of some portion of the image that needed to be captured but was not near enough to the corner to always guess it correctly. I do see that Shweta's height setting capability could be useful, but, like JRock, I would really appreciate the return of the xy coordinate feature. There's a lot of vacant real estate on the current magnifier image which could include the xy coordinate, so it's not clear to me why the dev or ui team thought that it was preferable to omit it entirely.

+1 for me.  I already know the resolution of my screen - there is no need to display that in the magnifier.  Who needs that?  We need the X,y coordinates.  I use them when I am writing macros that use screen clicks.  It is very helpful to start a capture session, place my cursor, and remember the coordinates.  It works great with Screen Hunter (the free version!).  But my paid version of snag-it cannot do this.
Don't let the developer dictate the functionality - listen to the voice of the customer please.
